‘I want to be 70 and have the energy and the excitement and the desire to go to the studio and drink my coffee and write my songs. I want to still have that feeling – that’s what I want, those are the ambitions I have.’ she tells the magazine.

The singer-songwriter has seen her star rise meteorically thanks to hit collaborations with The Weeknd and Travis Scott released this year.

The TKN hitmaker has also been writing and recording with Pharrell Williams, who tells Vogue of her approach to making music: ‘I don’t think that she really puts up partitions and tries to draw lines when it’s time for her work.

‘That’s not where she’s at with it…. She’s not afraid to Frankenstein a song. For her it’s like, “Whatever feels good.” And that’s how music should be. That’s how some of the greatest songs are written.’

Of course it wouldn’t be a Vogue feature without a spotlight on fashion.

Discussing her approach to dressing, the songstress tells the style bible: ‘I think about what I’m communicating, what’s underneath. What’s the treatment? What ideas are there?

‘Am I going to be dancing or performing? It’s kind of instinctive. It’s about how things make you feel when you see them. What colors grab your attention, how a texture makes you feel when you touch it.

‘I love things that are really structured or really loose – I’m not really about finding a middle ground. I like extremes.’

Rosalia has said she takes inspiration from many genres, and cites flamenco as a major influence when she was an adolescent. She infused the traditional Spanish sound into her work to create a modern style of flamenco with hints of R&B. Now she’s a global star, she’s dabbling in reggaeton and hip-hop.

‘Before anything, for me, my intention has been to make music with the utmost respect for the cultures that inspired it. It’s so important to put your influences on the table and give them love.’ she tells Vogue.

Rosalia joins Vogue’s other January cover stars; Paloma Elsesser, Naomi Osaka and Frances McDormand.

Vogue’s January 2021 issue is available on newsstands nationwide on December 22.
