The hair colorist/reality star opened up about his past during a chat with tk on her Scissoring Isn’t A Thing podcast.

On the podcast Justin, who is gay, revealed his high school girlfriend – both devoutly Mormon at the time – got pregnant and they decided to give the baby up for adoption.

Explaining how there was ‘no talk of abortion’ because of their religious backgrounds, Justin and his high school girlfriend decided on an adoption.

‘So we found this beautiful couple. It was an open adoption. We had our son Tyler. I was in the hospital room. I’m 18 by the way,’ he remembered. ‘We hand our baby over to the family. And I drive back to college by myself and life goes on.’

It was only years after that Anderson would come out as gay. He, his siblings and his parents left the Mormon church sometime after that.

Because it was an open adoption, Justin’s son was able to get in touch with him years later – on Instagram.

‘Three years ago I am sitting on the couch and I get a direct message from my son literally saying “Hey,”‘ Anderson said. ‘I go, “This kid’s cute. Why is this kid writing for me?” I write back, “Hey what’s up?” and he says, “Do you know who this is?” Boom. So then the whole thing happened.’

After they ‘started talking on Instagram,’ they decided it was time to meet in person.

Their first meet went perfectly, as Justin said: ‘My family, his family, we all meet up for dinner. He has the most beautiful, sweetest, kindest family. They raised him so well.’

They’ve kept up the relationship with ‘phone calls, texts and that kind of stuff’ since.

‘We’ll see where it ends up going,’ he went on.
