Neighbour has the perfect one word answer to next door’s traffic-stopping Christmas illuminations

Light relief! Neighbour has the perfect one word answer to next door’s traffic-stopping Christmas illuminations

  • Malcolm Finch, from London, put up a comical sign which spells ‘ditto’ in lights
  • His simple display pointed to his neighbour’s home, covered in illuminations
  • Shared hilarious creation on Twitter saying he didn’t think he could compete

If you can’t compete with your neighbour’s extravagant flashing Christmas lights, you could copy one householder’s simple but perfect solution.

Malcolm Finch, from London, shared a clip from outside his house which revealed the great efforts his neighbours had gone to to deck out the front of their home in hundreds of flashing lights.

So instead of trying to outshine them, Mr Finch simply put up a small illuminated sign spelling ‘ditto’ in white lights, with an arrow pointing to next door.

Malcolm Finch, from London, shared a comical video comparing his Christmas lights efforts to the impressive display his neighbours had put on

In the hilarious 20-second clip, it is possible to see just how much time and dedication was put into creating the colourful display on the neighbour’s house.

Blue lights twinkle, light-up icicle style decorations hang from the roof and a golden star shines in the centre of the festive facade.

The neighbours had also gone to the trouble of setting up a projector, shining images of snowflakes onto the walls.

But in contrast to the Christmas grotto-style decor, Mr Finch pans the camera round to his home which is nearly in darkness on a rainy afternoon – and reveals his festive efforts.

The hilariously small ‘ditto’ sign, which is attached above a front window of his bungalow, and the arrow come into focus.

Mr Finch, who had a friend’s help to make the witty display, shared the funny video on Twitter.

Malcolm created a small light-up sign which read 'ditto' and pointed next door

Malcom said he could not compete with the neighbour's impressive display

Believing he could not compete with the neighbour’s impressive display (right), Malcolm created a small light-up sign which read ‘ditto’ and pointed next door

He said: ‘I can’t compete with the next door neighbour’s amazing Christmas lights, but I wanted to do something.’

Viewers of the video have given the display the seal of approval.

One Twitter user wrote ‘so funny’, while others described Malcolm’s efforts as ‘brilliant’ and ‘fabulous’.

‘It’s the thought that counts after all,’ another said.
