Comedian Hannah Gadsby pokes fun at Elyse Knowles for THAT ‘wallah’ gaffe – as her spelling mistake sends social media into meltdown

Model Elyse Knowles has been mercilessly mocked online after misspelling ‘voilà’ as ‘wallah’ on Instagram.

And Australian comedian Hannah Gadsby, 42, has become the latest star to poke fun at the 28-year-old Byron Bay influencer.

On Friday, the standup comedy sensation uploaded an Instagram photo of her dogs Jasper, Douglas and Daisy, alongside the caption: ‘Wallah!’.

The comedian’s remark had some of her 364,000 followers in hysterics, with many commenting the laughing emoji and even one labeling it as the ‘best caption ever’.

‘Ha! Best caption ever. You are a true ‘influencer’ now!’ one wrote, before another joked: ‘Et Voilà!’

Elyse’s typo was first noticed by Celeb Spellcheck in August, but did not go viral until American social media sensation Josh Ostrovsky, a.k.a. The Fat Jewish, shared it with his 10.6 million followers on Wednesday.

He shared a screenshot of Elyse’s blunder and wrote: ‘Spending an unhealthy amount of time thinking about how this influencer spelled ‘Voilà’.’

The 38-year-old’s followers flocked to the Australian’s Instagram and honed in on the most recent post: a photo of Elyse at the beach in a blue dress.

Their comments included ‘wallah!’, ‘Wallahhhhhh’, ‘Wallah jenna say kwah’, ‘WaLlAh’, ‘WALLAH’, ‘You’re so knowledgeable #wallah ‘forever’ and ‘WALLAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH PRAISE THE MOST HIGHHHHHH’.

One social media user said the trolls were ‘ruthless’, while another admitted they had only visited Elyse’s profile ‘for the wallah’s and I am not disappointed’.

Elyse’s gaffe can be traced back to August, when she shared a photo to Instagram Stories of herself posing on a bed in a white shirt, alongside the caption: ‘Wallah.’

She presumably meant to use the popular French term ‘Voilà’, which, according to Merriam-Webster, is ‘used to call attention, to express satisfaction or approval, or to suggest an appearance as if by magic’.
