Duncan James reveals Blue are planning a comeback tour in 2021 to celebrate their 20th anniversary

Blue are planning to reunite for a 20th anniversary comeback tour when Covid-19 restrictions ease.

Duncan James revealed that he and bandmates Antony Costa, Lee Ryan and Simon Webbe are working on something, but lockdown has made it difficult to get together.

The singer, 42, told The Sun: ‘We were wanting to do something for our 20th anniversary but at the moment lockdown has meant it’s been difficult to get together.’

He continued: ‘It’s not been easy. There could be something in the pipeline as we’re really good mates.’

The band formed in 2000, going on to release three studio albums titled All Rise, One Love and Guilty.

After announcing a hiatus in 2004, Duncan, Antony, 39, Lee, 37, and Simon, 41, released their first compilation album, Best Of Blue.

A music industry source told the publication that the band are proud to still have their hits played on the radio now.

They went on to say that Blue have not yet decided whether or not they will release new music.

The source added: ‘Fans will have to wait and see whether they will release new music or not but with such a hit-packed back catalogue in their locker it’s not something the band are feeling pressured about making a decision on yet.

‘They know they have a loyal fanbase who they love to entertain so it’s safe to say it’s going to be a Blue extravaganza in 2021.’

The group first reunited in January 2011 and represented the UK in that year’s Eurovision Song Contest, coming in 11th place after a performance of I Can in Dusseldorf.

They went on to release two more studio albums, their fourth Roulette in 2013 and their fifth Colours in 2015.

In 2013, they joined groups including Liberty X, Atomic Kitten and 5ive to give a one-off gig as part of The Big Reunion.

Earlier this year, Duncan, who has been performing in Cabaret All Stars at London’s Proud Embankment, recalled the female attention he and his band mates received during their heyday.

Speaking on FUBAR Radio’s Access All Areas, the singer told how when Blue would travel abroad, they were met by hoards of screaming girls and admitted they may have got intimate with some of them.

He said: ‘There was obviously a lot of girl attention back then and I of course was straight back in those days. So there was like lots of girls turning up at certain airports to meet you.

‘Say we’d land in Singapore or Malaysia or whatever, certain girls would always be there waiting for you. You’d get ones that would always come to me, ones that would go to the boys. Basically they just liked you.’

However, they were left disappointed when they realised the same girls would come to greet every boyband who passed through their airport.

He said: ‘What we used to find out was that it was the same girls who used to be there at the airport. We thought we were special but they were the same girls there for when Take That had landed or the Five boys landed or the Westlife boys landed.

‘They were like serial hardcore boy band girl fans and they just wanted to try to sleep with their favourite popstar! I think that was their goal, how many they could tick off!’

When asked if any succeeded, Duncan teased: ‘I would never disclose such a thing!’

He continued: ‘It was quite funny to find out, you look at Backstreet Boys back in the day and I was like, “that’s the girl that I know and she’s now got her arms round Nick Carter!” I was like hmmm.’
