Strictly star Nadiya Bychkova sets Guinness World Record

Strictly Come Dancing‘s Nadiya Bychkova has set the Guinness World Record for the most complete fleckerls performed in 30 seconds.

The Slovenian-Ukrainian dancer was one of 15 pros to take on the challenge in the annual pro challenge on It Takes Two on Friday night.

The fleckerl is a fast moving spin that is performed during a Viennese Waltz but unlike a natural or reverse turn it does not move forwards along the dance floor but instead rotates on the spot.

Set: Strictly Come Dancing’s Nadiya Bychkova has set the Guinness World Record for the most complete fleckerls performed in 30 seconds.

In order for the step to qualify, each fleckerl had to consist of six steps and if any of these steps were missed then the fleckerl was disqualified.

Each attempt of the challenge, which was a first in Strictly and Guinness World Records history, was judged by Craig Revel Horwood as well as Official Guinness World Records adjudicator Sofia Greenacre.

Despite tough competition, Nadiya, 31, performed an impressive 25 fleckerls on the BBC Two show to be crowned the Guinness World Record holder.

In second place was Neil Jones, who completed 24 fleckerls while Anton Du Beke also achieved his highest ever result for a Strictly Pro challenge, completing 19 fleckerls in the allotted time.

In previous years, the show’s professional dancer have taken on other Guinness World Record attempts including the most Botafogo dance steps in 30 seconds.

Last year, Graziano di Prima, 25, knocked Giovanni Pernice, 29, off the top spot in the annual pro challenge

Graziano and Giovanni both broke the previous World Record, set in November 2011 by former Strictly Come Dancing pro dancer Artem Chigvintsev, who achieved 79 Botafogo dance steps in 30 seconds.

The hunk won the challenge with an impressive 90 steps and Giovanni came to a close second with 80 steps after three other dancers were disqualified.

The Botafogo is a classic Samba step; in order for the move to qualify, the pro challenge panel Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood, former Strictly Champion Flavia Cacace-Mistry and official Guinness World Record adjudicator Mark McKinley were looking for a clear step across to the side and then a replacement of weight.

If the step did not include all of these points, it was disqualified.

Elsewhere, Neil Jones has said it would be ‘great’ to be in an all-male couple on next year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The professional dancer, 38, has not had a celebrity partner during this year’s season of the hit BBC show, however he has performed in group numbers.

Although there not yet being a male duo competing on the show, Neil’s ex-wife Katya made history alongside Nicola Adams when they performed together in 2020.

Speaking to The Sun about next year and potentially dancing with a man, Neil said: ‘I wouldn’t have a problem with it. I’d embrace it. It would be great.

‘We’ve seen so many great male dancers dance together in the past, so why not? We had Nicola on with Katya this year. If it was with another man I’d do the same.’

Neil, who was last paired with Alex Scott in 2019, said because there is less celebs competing in 2020s shorter season he missed out on being in a dancing duo.

He said: ‘This year has been difficult because there were less celebrities. Hopefully next year… I can get a partner.’

This year’s season had a slightly shorter running time in an effort to maintain new rules brought in amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Other measures included having stars placed in couple bubbles with their pro partners and maintaining social distancing during filming.

Despite making history as the first all-female partnership on the show, Nicola and Katya had to leave the competition after the professional tested positive for COVID.

However they will be making a reprisal in the series for one last dance, thought to be happening during the final in two weeks time.
