This is the adorable moment a parrot uses her beak as a pair of ‘scissors’ to open a packet of tea. 

Maui, a lovebird, was filmed by owner Kerri Cosma in Idaho, using her beak to cut open the packet.

Footage shows the little bird clamping her beak along the top of a packet of tea, moving from one side to the other.

The top comes off the packet after Maui uses her beak with the efficiency and precision of a pair of scissors. 

She then ducks back under the shelf she is standing on, taking the strip off the top of the packet with her. 

In another clip, the parrot cuts a strip of paper off a letter, and places the shredded pieces in her feathers. 

A third video shows the bird, who already has one shredded strip in her plumage, tearing more bits of paper off to add to it.

This is part of a lovebird’s nesting behaviour, and signifies that the animal is ready for mating and is practicing nest making.  

The clip, posted on August 2, went viral online and has been viewed over 1.6million times, gaining 377.7K likes.  

Users have taken to TikTok to comment on the adorable video, with one user saying: ‘This was so satisfying.’ 

Another wrote: ‘He said “no problem, I’ll be in my office”.’ 

A third asked: ‘Is she building a nest,’ and Maui’s owner Kerri replied: ‘Yes’.
