True Blood reboot in early stages of development at HBO… with the creator of Riverdale set to pen script

True Blood can get excited for something new to sink their teeth into.

A reboot of the supernatural series is in the early stages of development at HBO, according to Variety.

True Blood originally ran for seven seasons from 2008 to 2014, starring Anna Paquin, Alexander Skarsgård, Joe Manganiello, and Stephen Moyer.

As of now none of the original cast is attached to make a return.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Jami O’Brien are set to write the script. They will also executive produce along with original series creator and showrunner Alan Ball.

Aguirre-Sacasa is known for playing with dark themes, as the man behind the Archie Comics adaptation Riverdale. 

Additionally, he’s worked on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Katy Keene, Supergirl, and Glee. 

Aguirre-Sacasa is teaming up with HBO on another supernatural drama called The Shelley Society, which is set for the streaming service HBO Max.

O’Brien created, executive produced and served as showrunner on the AMC series NOS4A2, based on a Joe Hill novel of the same name.

Her other credits include Fear the Walking Dead, Hell on Wheels, and Da Vinci’s Demons. 

O’Brien and Aguirre-Sacasa both worked on the HBO series Big Love at the same time in 2011.

The series followed the adventures of telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse (Pacquin), who encounters werewolves, fairies, witches and more through the series.
