Woman dies after falling from balcony of ninth-floor penthouse suite at five-star boutique hotel in central London – as police say death is ‘non-suspicious’

A woman has fallen to her death from a five-star boutique hotel in London.

Police rushed to The Standard near the British Library on Euston Road at about 5.30am.

Officers were seen combing for forensics on the balcony of the ninth-floor penthouse suite. Hotel manager Elli Jafari confirmed the woman was a guest.

Witness Moses Bouchamie, 30, told the Standard: ‘There was a massive thud, then I saw a woman on the ground.

‘Staff from the Tube stop opposite raced over to her. Then the paramedics showed up and were working on her. It was terrible.’

A hotel spokesman said: ‘We can confirm a tragic incident took place this morning.

‘Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the individual involved and we are providing any information the police require as part of their ongoing investigation.’

A police spokesman said: ‘Police were called to Euston Road at 5.26am following reports that a woman had suffered injuries consistent with a fall from a height.

‘Officers attended alongside London Ambulance Service. A woman was pronounced dead at the scene.’

They added: ‘A road closure was put in place on Euston Road while inquiries continue.’

The Standard has 266 rooms with prices from £200 a night. It has rooms overlooking St Pancras station and a 10th-floor restaurant offering views across London.
