Why The Bachelor’s couple success rate is so much higher than the Bachelorette’s

The Bachelorette Australia has been marred by a trail of heartbreak since its first season aired in 2015.

While half of the couples who found love on The Bachelor are still together to this day, only one Bachelorette couple has managed to stand the test of time. 

According to Shameless podcast host Michelle Andrews, the reason behind The Bachelorette’s comparatively dismal success rate is simple: the contestants suck.

‘I think the women going on this show are more likely to be hopeless romantics who actually do want a romantic relationship,’ she explained.

‘I feel like with the recent Bachelorettes we’ve had in Elly and Becky, Angie Kent, Ali Oetjen, Sophie Monk – I feel like they really do get that frat boy, boys’ trip vibe of the contestants going on, and it truly doesn’t seem like many, maybe only a couple on each season, are genuinely invested in a relationship,’ she continued. 

‘The rest of them just want to go on for a holiday,’ Michelle added. 

Of the seven Bachelorette couples, only Georgia Love and Lee Elliott’s romance remains intact. 

The couple are now engaged to be married, but were recently forced to delay their wedding due to the Covid-19 pandemic. 

Last week, Elly Miles became the latest Bachelorette to break up with her winning suitor. 

In an emotional video shared to Instagram, the Bondi-based nurse wiped away tears as she revealed that she’d split from concreter Frazer Neate.  

Elly’s sister, Becky, also failed to find love on The Bachelorette, confirming she’d split from her winning suitor, Pete Mann, just hours after the season finale. 

There are currently four Bachelor couples that have survived since the show. 

Tim Robards and Anna Heinrich found love at the end of season one, and have gone on to marry and welcome their first child this year, a daughter named Elle.  

Sam Wood is also going strong with his wife Snezana Markoski, after the pair found love on season three of The Bachelor.

The couple have married since the show, and now share three children: daughter Willow, two, nine-month-old daughter Charlie and 14-year-old Eve – Snezana’s daughter from a previous marriage. 

Matty Johnson and Laura Byrne found love on season five of The Bachelor, and are now engaged to be wed.  

The happy couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Marlie-Mae in June last year, and are currently expecting their second.   

While Locky Gilbert and Irena Srbinovska only fell in love on this year’s season of the Bachelor, their romance appears strong enough to last a lifetime.
