The dog was spotted at Chongqing University on Wednesday, the university said through its social media account.

It showed up in a classroom in the university’s Huxi campus while a lecturer was giving an algebra class.

‘The dog squatted in the first row and began to listen to the class carefully. It was studying hard together with us,’ the institute wrote on Weibo, the Chinese equivalent to Twitter.

‘We were having a linear algebra class, and the little dog walked in,’ one of the witnessing students told Chinese video news outlet Pear.

‘It then walked up to the lecturer, and he could do nothing about it,’ said the youngster, adding that some of his classmates gave biscuits to the dog.

Footage released by Pear shows the dog chasing a piece of food in the classroom.

Another student told Pear that she and her classmates were preparing for an exam when the pug appeared unannounced.

‘We were saying that the dog listened even more carefully than us, so perhaps it could come to the exam tomorrow on behalf of us,’ she joked.

It is said that the pug had been seen in various other classrooms before and was likely looking for a warm place to stay on the day.

Another reader wrote: ‘So cute. Bring it home.’

However, many other people expressed their safety concerns for the students.

‘Cant’s believe stray dogs run around the campus at will. The school’s management is too poor,’ a critic commented.

Another worried: ‘Who would pay [for the medical bills] if the dog hurts the students?’
