Holly Willoughby channels Princess Diana by wearing her iconic ‘black sheep’ jumper

Holly Willoughby channelled Princess Diana on Saturday as she took to Instagram to share a picture of herself wearing her iconic ‘black sheep’ jumper.

The late Princess of Wales famously wore the item of clothing, created by Joanna Osborne and Sally Muir’s Warm and Wonderful, in 1981 at the Guards Polo Club at Smith’s Lawn in Windsor and again in 1983.

It was apparently a gift from the mother of one of the princess’ page boys at her wedding to Prince Charles in 1981.

Many believed Princess Diana’s infamous ‘black sheep’ jumper cheekily hinted at her feelings of being an outsider in the Royal family.

Princess Diana’s ‘black sheep’ jumper has garnered attention again thanks to the fourth series of The Crown, which focuses on the early romance between Prince Charles, played by Josh O’Connor, 30, and Diana, played by Emma Corrin, 24.

Taking to Instagram on Saturday, Holly recreated Princess Diana’s look as she wore a replica of the sweater by New York-based label Rowing Blazers, who worked with the original London designers Warm & Wonderful for the re-release.

The This Morning star looked radiant as she shared the black-and-white photo alongside a sheep emoji and the caption ‘❤️ #gifted’.

Princess Diana’s ‘black sheep’ jumper has garnered attention again thanks to the fourth series of The Crown.

It was worn by Emma Corrin, 24, who portrays the late Princess of Wales, during a scene in which Diana can be seen lonely at Buckingham Palace moments before she tied the knot to Prince Charles, played by Josh O’Connor, 30.

Since the release of the fourth season, research has shown a surge in searches for looks inspired by the royal, from her telling ‘black sheep jumper’ to her signature tartan jacket.

And as such, Warm & Wonderful have released the jumper again which is available to pre-order for $295 (£219) on American fashion brand Rowing Blazers under the name of ‘women’s original “Diana” sheep sweater’. They had stopped producing it in 1994.

Speaking to BAZAAR.com, Joanna Osborne, the co-designer of Warm & Wonderful, said: ‘Princess Diana is enduringly fascinating. She still feels very contemporary, and people’s interest in her and her family is as strong as ever.

‘Even after so many years, she is still exerting a strong influence on fashion with her own stylish combination of independence, kindness, and glamour.’

In the 1980s, Joanna and her partner, Sally Muir, were left shocked when their piece was sported by Diana to a number of events, making headlines each time.
