Sonia Kruger reveals she got ‘hammered’ before the Logie Awards and ended up falling over on live TV

TV presenter Sonia Kruger always looks perfectly poised in front of the camera.

But the 55-year-old wasn’t quite so composed at the 2006 Logie Awards, when she accepted Dancing with the Stars‘ award for Most Popular Light Entertainment Program.

Speaking on Triple M’s Moonman in the Morning on Friday, Sonia explained that she was struggling at the ceremony after drinking heavily the night before.

Whoops! Sonia Kruger has revealed she got ‘hammered’ the night before before the 2006 Logie Awards and ended up falling over on live TV. Pictured at the ceremony on May 7, 2006

Sonia, who was filling in for regular host Jess Eva, explained that she got ‘hammered’ with several other stars 24 hours before the Logies.

‘Next minute, it’s 6am and you haven’t had any sleep,’ she said.

Sonia explained that she went to the awards ceremony at the Crown Palladium in Melbourne feeling ‘really ill’ and ‘shabby as’.

Despite her sorry state, red carpet photos from the evening show her looking very glamorous indeed in an emerald green gown.

After Dancing with the Stars was announced as the winner of its category, Sonia stood up too quickly and ended up stacking it in front of the cameras.

‘I stood up to get the award and I stepped on the front of my dress and it was a strapless dress,’ she said.

‘I thought, “I can’t stand up because I’m going to pull the dress down.” So instead I fell over. I fell over on my way to the stage to collect this award and I was mortified and I got back to the table.’

Dancing with the Stars judge Todd McKenney, who was sitting next to her, calmed her down and reassured her that nobody saw it.

But that wasn’t the case, as Sonia’s phone soon ‘blew up’ with friends saying they’d just watched her gaffe on the live broadcast.

Triple M host Lawrence Mooney asked if she was still drunk at the time, but Sonia insisted she was just hungover.

‘No, not at all. I was stone cold sober. The wine on the table was making me sweat,’ she said.
