Isla Fisher reveals how husband Sacha Baron Cohen helped her make a career comeback – as she stars in Christmas comedy Godmothered

Isla Fisher will return to the silver screen this week with the release of her new Disney+ comedy Godmothered. 

But the 44-year-old has admitted she may have had to turn down her role in the Christmas flick if it weren’t for the efforts of her comedian husband Sacha Baron Cohen

Speaking to WHO magazine on Thursday, Isla thanked her Borat star spouse for picking up the slack at home so she could work on the film.

‘My husband is in show business, so we can’t work at the same time… and that was a window where he could help,’ she explained. 

The former Home And Away star also said she’s looking forward to her children watching Godmothered as it contains important life lessons for them to learn.  

‘I’m really excited for my family to see this movie and also to give young girls a message that ‘happily ever after’ doesn’t necessarily involve a dress, a prince and a castle,’ she said.

In Godmothered, Isla plays TV reporter and single mother Mackenzie Walsh who hasn’t properly grieved the loss of her husband.

She is visited by her fairy godmother, played by Jillian Bell, who is determined to help get find her ‘happily ever after’.

Isla explained that she was first attracted to the role because it was led by female director, Sharon Maguire, and because her character was very different to her past roles.

‘It really appealed to me to play someone who is not as ebullient as I play. It’s just a different character than anyone I’ve inhabited,’ she told the publication.

Isla and Sacha are currently based Sydney and are believed to be making a permanent move Down Under with their three children. 

Meanwhile, Isla is preparing to star in a new Netflix’s new movie – titled ‘Back To The Outback’ – alongside the likes of Keith Urban, Eric Bana and Tim Minchin.  

According to The Daily Telegraph, the film follows a group of animals who escape from Sydney Zoo, and embark on an adventure to find a home away from humans.
