Jamie Laing admits his girlfriend Sophie Habboo ‘got very angry’ when he said he’d propose

Jamie Laing’s hopes of scoring a fianceé and the Strictly Come Dancing glitterball have been dashed.

The Made In Chelsea star, 32, has admitted his girlfriend Sophie Habboo, 26, ‘got very angry’ when he suggested in a previous interview that he would propose to her if he won Strictly.

Speaking on Wednesday’s Lorraine with his dance partner Karen Hauer, Jamie joked that instead he told Sophie he’d propose to the pro dancer.

‘My girlfriend got very angry when I mentioned it,’ Jamie told Lorraine of his public declaration of marriage.

Jamie added that he had a backup plan if his girlfriend, who he went public with in April 2019, turns him down.  

‘It went from I’ll marry my girlfriend to then saying if you won’t marry me I’ll marry Karen. Then Karen’s going to say no as well so if I win I’ll just take the glitter ball!’ he quipped.

While he joked about proposing to his pro partner, Karen insisted the two are just like brother and sister, telling Lorraine:  

‘We spend so much time together training and getting to know one another and building that trust and connection and chemistry. He even dresses like me.’ 

Last week, the media personality admitted he is ‘always’ suggesting to Sophie they should get married but she doesn’t want to hear it, explaining to The Mirror she changes the subject whenever he brings it up.  

He said: ‘I’m always saying things to her about getting married after the show but she tells me to shut up.

‘You can never quite tell what she’s thinking. I always tell her I love her and want to marry her, but she just tells me to be quiet.’  

Jamie and Karen will be performing a jive to Everyone’s Taking About Jamie for Saturday night’s Strictly Musicals week.

‘I thought, surely people are going to think I chose it because it has my name in it,’ Jamie told Lorraine of the song choice. ‘But it does have a really great message and hopefully we do it justice on Saturday night.’
