Ryan recalled when the presenter also stepped in to take care of his younger brothers Brad and Dominic when the Burnley native was critically injured in a roadside bomb attack in Iraq aged 16.

The radio host again helped look after his family while their mother Wendy cared for her eldest son in hospital, and their father, who served in The Queen’s Lancashire Regiment until 2006, worked in the Middle East.

He told The Mirror: ‘I think we all changed a lot during this period. At the time I don’t think any of us noticed it but looking back it definitely brought a strong family unit even closer together.’

Ryan added: ‘He has worked so hard to achieve his boyhood dream of Radio 1 DJ we need all his fans to now push his dream further so we can crown him King of the Castle. I’m most proud that Jordan has been himself in there.’
