Speaking about her grieving process over the past year, she added: ‘Lockdown gave us the space and time to process everything that we had been hit with.’

Sarah tragically lost her brother, Karl De Abrew, in October 2019 following a 15-year battle with brain cancer.

The ceremony was held in Ireland, where Karl lived, because he was unable to travel overseas due to his condition.

On Mother’s Day this year, Sarah faced more tragedy after losing her beloved grandmother.

It was around that time she also revealed that she and James had suffered two miscarriages in the past year.

Moving forward: Sarah said she understood the 'world' was grieving amid the pandemic, adding: 'I'm hoping once we're able, we can try recognise the beauty in how we put ourselves back together than we were before'

But family has been Sarah’s saving grace – and recently, Sarah revealed how much Scout meant to her after becoming her step-mum when the pair married.

Speaking to Nova’s How To… Life podcast, she said that Scout – from James’ previous relationship with Packed to the Rafters star Jessica Marais – had become her main priority.

‘I wanted to be a stable adult in her life and we didn’t want to bring that up or make it public unless it was going to be a safe environment for Scout,’ she said.

‘She’s teaching me so much and I feel like I’m teaching her a lot. I know eventually one day our time will come and we are able to give her a brother or a sister.’
