Billie Eilish is named as Spotify’s ‘most streamed’ female artist of 2020

Billie Eilish is named Spotify’s ‘most streamed’ female artist of 2020.

The singer-songwriter, 18, who garners 49,736,031 monthly listeners on the platform, beat out Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande for the top spot.

‘These female artists had the most streams across Spotify in 2020 #2020Wrapped,’ wrote Spotify, who unveiled the statistics via Twitter on Tuesday.

Miraculously, Eilish was able to rake in the most Spotify streams for a female artist without even releasing an album in 2020.

The singer’s debut album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? was released in March of 2019 and helped make her a household name, following the success of her single Bad Guy.

Despite not adding another album to her discography, Billie did premiere three brand new tracks throughout the year, including No Time To Die which the singer wrote for the upcoming James Bond film of the same name.

Eilish’s inspirational tune My Future, which she performed during the Democratic National Convention in late August, hit streaming services on July 30.

Her most recent musical contribution came on November 12 with the release of her moody bop Therefore I Am, which, like the rest of her songs, she co-wrote with brother Finneas Baird O’Connell.

Therefore I Am is currently sitting at number one on Billie’s ‘popular’ songs list on Spotify.

It was revealed last month that Eilish has earned four Grammy nominations for her 2019 single Everything I am and her Bond ballad No Time To Die.

Taylor Swift, who came in second place on Spotify’s most streamed females of 2020 list, became the soundtrack of the quarantined after she surprised her fans with her eight studio album Folklore in July.

According to the official Spotify page, Swift, 30, earns nearly 31million listeners a month on the platform.

The 17-track record came less than a year after the release of the Grammy Award-winning artist’s album Lover, which hit shelves and streaming platform in August of 2019.

Coming in third was pop princess Ariana Grande, despite boasting 69,055,072 monthly Spotify listeners.

The former Nickelodeon star, 27, showcased her impressive four-octave vocal range on her latest album Positions, which was released on October 30.

But there is no doubt that Grande’s hit record Thank U, Next, which debuted in February of 2019, was responsible for raking in the listeners, with infectious tracks like 7 Rings.

Dua Lipa, Halsey, and Lady Gaga, who earned the list’s 4th, 5th, and 6th spots, also released monumental records this year.

Lipa, 25, regularly earns 59,027,368 monthly listeners on Spotify, with three of her top five tracks coming straight off her Future Nostalgia, which was released in March.

Despite releasing her highly anticipated third studio album Manic in January, the majority of Halsey’s top tracks are from her EPs and albums past.

The 26-year-old singer, born Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, boasts nearly 42million monthly Spotify listeners.

Lady Gaga, whose album Chromatica entered her fans earbuds towards the start of the pandemic in the United States, successfully garners 40,010,973 listeners a month, with her top tracks consisting of her recent singles and songs off the Star Is Born Soundtrack.

Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, and Camila Cabello followed in Eilish’s footsteps and decided not to release new albums this year.

But instead of snagging the top slot, Nicki, Rihanna, and Camila came in seventh, eighth, and ninth on Spotify’s list.

Rounding out the top 10 is actress-turned-singer Selena Gomez who proudly released her most personal record yet, titled Rare, on January 10.

Gomez, 28, attracts 36,465,375 listeners to her Spotify a month, with her painfully beautiful track Lose You To Love Me, featured on Rare, sitting proudly at number one on her ‘Popular’ page.
