Filming for Sky adaptation of Hansel and Gretel was ‘interrupted by noisy builders’

David Walliams and Sheridan Smith’s new Sky adaptation of Hansel and Gretel ‘repeatedly interrupted by noisy builders’

They have been working on a new adaptation of Hansel and Gretel for Sky.

But work on David Walliams and Sheridan Smith’s new drama was reportedly repeatedly interrupted by noisy builders putting together a wedding venue.

The comedian and children’s author, 49, has been remaking the film for the channel, a family comedy retelling the classic tale.

The co-stars had to reshoot scenes after building work at the Newland Park at the Chiltern Open Air Museum in Chalfont St Giles, Bucks interrupted production, The Sun reported

David was dressed as a troll, while Sheridan was dressed as a witch and flying around on a broomstick when the incidents happened, the website reported.

A source told the publication: ‘It’s bad luck that just when they needed to film, a load of builders were in putting up a wedding venue next door. The noise was a bit much at times due to the drills and hammering.

‘It stopped the shoot a couple of times. These things happen on set and David and Sheridan were model professionals. They just had to work around it and get their heads down when they could.’

MailOnline has contacted representatives for David, Sheridan and Sky for comment.

David recently transformed into a giant for a Christmas special about Jack And The Beanstalk After Ever After on Sky One.

The comedian co-wrote the show and looked unrecognisable as he posed for some snaps all kitted out in costume, rocking a long beard and padded stomach.

David appeared to be in great spirits during filming, showing off his impressive attire and makeup.

He opted for some leather lace-up boots and a long blue tunic with a black leather belt around his sizeable midriff to completely commit to the giant’s character.

While a selection of behind-the-scenes snaps showed David’s giant character being tied to a wooded post and the villagers running with pitchforks.

Actress Sheridan Smith also stars in the show as The Woman With No Name and was spotted rocking an eye patch and medieval-style dress.

The show picks up after the classic tale ends, with Jack discovering all is not what it seems.

When Jack (played by Eddie Karanja) discovers the Giant (David Walliams) is not dead, merely concussed and suffering memory loss, Jack pretends they’re friends to avoid being eaten.

Keen to get the Giant home, Jack must first outsmart the angry villagers including infamous giant-killer The Woman With No Name (Sheridan Smith), the bean-swapping conman Dodgy Dave (Blake Harrison) and Jack’s own distrustful mum Pat (Jocelyn Jee Esien).

Along the way, Jack and the Giant discover they have more in common than they thought and learn to work together.
