Triple J announces its new breakfast team replacing Sally and Erica

Triple J announces its new breakfast team – as departing hosts Sally Coleman and Erica Mallett end their partnership after eight years

Triple J Breakfast’s Sally Coleman and Erica Mallett recently announced they were leaving the radio station effectively immediately to ‘pursue other opportunities’.

And almost two weeks since their abrupt departure, the youth broadcaster has announced that Bryce Mills and Ebony Boadu will be filling the slot from January.

Bryce, who previously hosted Triple J Weekend Arvos, said on Monday he was ‘excited’ to start his new position.

‘I was in high school when I decided that I wanted to one day host triple j Breakfast. It was pretty arrogant of me to make that declaration during maths class with absolutely no idea how I’d get to triple j, but here we are!’ he said.

‘I can’t tell you how proud and excited I am to start this new role and get to know triple j listeners on an even deeper level.’

Ebony is a DJ from western Sydney and has performed at festivals including Falls and Splendor in the Grass.

She said she was ‘stoked to have the opportunity to share my favourite new songs, talk to artists that I admire and make thousands of new friends every morning.’

‘Over the past two years I’ve had the most incredible time spending my Saturday nights DJing and partying with people all over the country,’ she added.

‘I’ve been so humbled and grateful for that opportunity alone, but to now be able to wake up with triple j listeners and hang out every single day in my dream workplace is still something I’m trying to fully process.’

The duo’s breakfast show will be titled Bryce & Ebony.

Meanwhile, former host Erica revealed on Sunday that she and Sally aren’t just leaving Triple J – they have also ended their creative partnership after eight years.

She told her Instagram followers that her show being axed by Triple J coincided with the ‘natural conclusion’ of the pair’s ‘creative ride together’.

‘In fact, the show was doing really well. We were getting great feedback across the board – from management and our listeners. Until recently, we were all planning for a 2021 where Sally and Erica would grow and grow,’ Erica said.

‘Sally and I started out together when I was 18, and I’m so proud of everything we have done over the last eight or so years – at triple j, as Coda Conduct, at FBI, the lot. She’s so clever and inspired and I’ve always admired that.

‘I wanted breakfast to continue. I really did, with my whole heart. Unfortunately, the reality was that although Sally and Erica – the show – was going great guns, Sally and Erica – the people – were coming to the natural conclusion of their eight-year creative ride together.’

On November 17, Sally told listeners:  ‘I’m so incredibly grateful to have spent the last four years as part of Australia’s biggest family of music lovers.’

‘I’ve had so many pinch-myself moments, but the most amazing part of my time at triple J has been the audience. Triple J listeners never fail to make me cackle, warm my heart and inspire me,’ she added.

‘I’ve loved waking up with you every morning. Thank you for everything. I can’t wait to show you what’s next!’
