Norwegian model Amalie Olufsen is being tipped to play the role of Paul Gascoigne’s ex-wife Sheryl in a planned film about the troubled footballer’s life.

The 23-year-old beauty, who hails from Mo i Rana in Norway, broke into modelling as the face of bespoke British underwear brand Buttress & Snatch, and became a Playboy Playmate in August 2020.

And MailOnline can reveal she is all but cast in the role of Sheryl – who is the mother to glamour model Bianca Gascoigne and has, since marrying and divorcing Gazza, appeared on the likes of Loose Women and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

A source told us: ‘Amalie is gaining traction in the modelling world and is also an up-and-coming actress. And she fits the bill perfectly to play a young Sheryl in the Gazza biopic.

‘She has impressed the producers and is set to play the role. She is relocating to the UK in 2021 and the filmmakers are hoping to get the project back off the ground as soon as they can.

‘As with so many productions this year, the COVID-19 pandemic has scuppered plans for creative projects with many still on the back-burner. So we have to wait and see what happens next…’

Amalie has previously starred in the likes of 30 Years Of Hurt and Best Sheep, and will appear on the cover of Playboy Australia next month

She has also netted a deal with Sauvage Swimwear – known to recruit the likes of Emily Ratajkowski and Candice Swanpoel for their campaigns – with insiders saying her aim is to ‘climb to the top of the UK modeling industry’.

No stranger to football stars, she also features in an ad campaign with ex-Aston Villa hero, John Carew.

Gazza’s ex Sheryl, now 55, met the former Newcastle United player in the early 1990s and married him in the summer of 1996.

She had previously been married to estate agent Colin Kyle, who is the father of Bianca, 34, and Mason, 30, who were adopted by step-father Gazza and took his surname. Gazza and Sheryl then welcomed another son together, Regan, now 24.

They divorced in August 1998, two years after their wedding, after a turbulent 24 months together.

Despite attempting to reconcile, Gazza’s much-publicised battle with addiction and alleged domestic violence was cited as the cause for their eventual split.

Sheryl later went on to become a campaigner for victims of domestic violence and in 2009 published a book titled Stronger: My Life Surviving Gazza.

She won a libel case the following year and was awarded damages after an article in The People misquoted her.

In 2013, Gazza thanked his fellow Premier League stars and celebrity friends for ‘saving his life’ after funding another of his stints in rehab.

The former England star thanked the likes of Radio DJ Chris Evans, and footballers Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard – among others – for stepping in to pay the £7,500 a week cost.

A number of footballers and showbiz stars paid for him to stay at the Cottonwood clinic in Arizona amid deepening concerns for his life.

He said at the time that he would not rule out going on another drinking binge, reportedly telling the Daily Star: ‘I do miss a pint. I’ll never say never. I might drink again in the future.’

He recently spoke out in support of his son Regan, months after he revealed during a television interview that he is bisexual.

Last year Regan spoke openly about his sexuality in a newspaper interview, followed by an appearance on Lorraine Kelly’s eponymous ITV show.

Gazza has now told The Mirror of his son: ‘He texted me the night before and I saw him on the TV talking about it. I told him, “It doesn’t matter what you do son, I will support you 100 percent, you have to do what makes you happy”.

‘I thought “bless him”. To go on TV and do that is hard. He is a professional dancer, he is a fit guy, and I am very proud of him.’

The sportsman went on to reveal that Regan stayed with him for several weeks during the early stages of his career in Newcastle, and he and his son now regularly keep in touch via phone calls and text message.
