Cardi B ‘never pressed for a Grammy,’ as she reveals why she did not submit WAP to the 2021 awards

Cardi B has no qualms about not being a contender at the 2021 Grammys.

In a recent Instagram live the 28-year-old rapper said she ‘never pressed for a Grammy,’ subsequently revealing why she did not submit her hit song WAP with Megan Thee Stallion.

Waiting for the release of her full album so she can be nominated in 2022, Cardi said ‘I didn’t want to be submitted to award shows until I put out my album because I think my album is so good.’

While many artists including The Weeknd took serious issue with being left off the list at the upcoming award show, Cardi is holding out until she can feel proud of her complete work.

Still hitting back at the award show, which is being accused of being highly political, she emphasized, ‘Like I said, I never pressed for a Grammy, but y’all not gonna take away something that I know I worked my a** off [for], that I deserve,’ she emphasized.

Adding that if she ‘was pressed for a Grammy [she] would’ve submitted WAP for this year’ but chose not to, the best-selling rapper has high hopes for next year.

Continuing to talk about her upcoming work she said it ‘means something and I worked on it a lot. I’ve been working on it for almost 2 years,’ adding that ‘some songs are just so emotional to me because I did them during quarantine.’

She and Megan also did well at the AMAs as the duo picked up an award for Favorite Song – Rap/Hip Hop for WAP.

Despite Cardi’s cool mentality when it comes to the Grammys, the list of nominations caused immense upheaval and sparked a lot of drama on social media with her too finding herself in the line of fire.

Seeming to take issue with the rapper’s previous Grammy wins, rapper Wiz Khalifa tried to pit Cardi against past rival Nicki Minaj on Twitter prompting Cardi to clap back.

Wiz tweeted, ‘As a grammy nominated artist I know how it feels. N****s always think its unfair until they get their turn. Just keep workin and that time’ll come through.’

One fan wrote, ‘Cardi winning a Grammy when nicki minaj didn’t is the biggest proof that they don’t know a s*** bout music,’ which he then quote retweeted adding, ‘Most self made artists have this problem.’

Not letting the situation get the best of her Cardi shared some receipts she had of a dialogue with Khalifa as she wrote

‘This was N****s in my dms in 2016! They really support you when you grinding at the bottom then it’s a different story when you make it !,’ while sharing a screenshot of a DM he had sent her in 2016.

The initial message read: ‘You got your cause and your sticking to it. Don’t stray away from the things that are important to you and make you you. Your doing a great job and the way you address things is admirable. Keep your light shining and don’t let others take it. Peace and love.’

Despite her career catapulting since her 2017 single Bodak Yellow, people are still quick to tear her down which she acknowledged publicly in her tweets.

‘I don’t understand why n****s entertain tweets that pit successful women against each other? Ya not tired of that? Specially when ya was rooting hard when a b**** was at the bottom.’

In recent years Nicki seems to have been eclipsed since Cardi – who shares a strong likeness in style and flow to Minaj – stepped on the scene.

After years of beef culminated in a memorable 2018 shoe-throwing incident at a party, the rivals have tried to put their feud to bed, despite people constantly pitting the two against each other.

Cardi seems to have put the past behind her and even seemed to sing Nicki’s praises in an August interview with Apple Music despite never explicitly saying her name.

‘When I was six, seven, eight, there was a lot different female rappers. And then there was a time that there was no female rappers at all. I have to keep replaying songs from the early 2000s,’ she said.

She continued, ‘I feel like people be wanting to put female artists against each other. Every single time I feel like there’s a female artist that’s coming up, coming up, coming up and it’s getting they mainstream moment…’.

The female rappers have since caused a stir as they are rumored to have a collaboration in the works since October.

A leaked snippet of a song called Lavish featured both artist’s vocals on the nine second clip with Cardi continuing to add fuel to the fire as she wrote that her collaboration with an unknown artist, ‘Gonna have ya sick.’
