Coronation Street’s Jane Danson clashes with ‘disrespectful’ Vicky Entwistle over script dig

Coronation Street‘s Jane Danson was embroiled in a Twitter clash with former co-star Vicky Entwistle, whom she branded ‘disrespectful’. 

It came as Jane, 42, who plays Leanne Battersby in the ITV soap, was praised by her co-star Georgia Taylor, 40, for her outstanding performance in Friday’s show which saw Leanne’s terminally ill son Oliver pass away.

But while the storyline and acting was applauded online, Vicky, 52, who played Leanne’s step-mum Janice Battersby, made a dig about the script, causing a shocked Jane to hit back: ‘Shame on you for writing that!’

The drama kicked off as fans were left in tears over Jane’s portrayal of heartbroken mum Leanne’ who made the painful decision to switch off Oliver’s life support machine amid his battle with mitochondrial disease.

Taking to Twitter after the episodes aired, actress Georgia, who plays Jane’s onscreen step-sister Toyah Battersby, penned: My beautiful, brilliant friend @RealJaneDanson You blow me away #corrie.’

However, former show star Vicky, who played Janice from 1997 to 2011, seemed far from impressed the script, and chipped in with a comment about the writing.

She responded to Georgia’s comment writing: ‘But imagine if she had better writers behind her!!! That really would have been something!!!’

Jane didn’t take too kindly to Vicky’s now-deleted comments and was quick to hit back with a response of her own, branding the former soap star ‘disrespectful’.

She wrote: ‘That’s so disrespectful. They were some of the best scripts i have ever had. Shame on you for writing that! Very disappointed how mean that comment was!’

She then went on to defiantly thank the cast, crew and script writers, tweeting: ‘Overwhelmed once again. im honoured to have been given this story to tell @itvcorrie along side our wonderful cast and directors @brett_fallis Abe Dukes and our writers Ellen Taylor and Joe Turner thank you so much x.’

However, Vicky later took back her harsh critique and issued an apology to her former onscreen daughter.

She tweeted: ‘I have apologised to @RealJaneDanson this morning. Rightly so. She is a wonderful actress! My tweet was childish and hurtful. I realise that and am truly sorry for any hurt I may have caused.’

It comes after viewers were left ‘sobbing’ on Friday night, as Leanne’s son Oliver tragically passed away.

Viewers were moved to tears by the devastating scenes as they took to Twitter to share their reaction, with many praising actress Jane Danson for her moving performance.

The scenes left many viewers ‘sobbing’ as they praised bosses for sensitively presenting the issue of child loss, and praised actress Jane for her performance.

One wrote: ‘My parents were in Leanne and Steve’s situation just before I was born after their daughter was diagnosed with an incurable disease. My dad has always been an alpha male but has just cried his heart out after watching tonight’s #Corrie .. So heartbreaking yet so accurately done.’
