Today show: Alex Cullen gets emotional as he’s surprised by his family on air

Today show newsreader Alex Cullen celebrated his 40th birthday on Friday.

And co-hosts Allison Langdon and Karl Stefanovic surprised him by inviting his wife, Bonnie Campbell, and their one-year-old twin daughters, Evie and Audrey, to appear on the breakfast program.

‘We’ve got a couple of visitors for you this morning,’ Allison told Alex, who had no idea what was going on. 

Alex, who was clearly touched by the gesture, put his hand over his mouth in shock, before blushing as he hugged his family.

Bonnie was quick to praise her husband, calling him the ‘best dad’ and gushing over hard he works every day. 

‘He is the best dad to the twins and he works so hard for our family,’ she added.  

‘It’s been a mad two years with twins and breakfast [television], but he is just the best to happy birthday darling.’

An emotional Alex replied: ‘I did not expect this at all. This is just a beautiful, wonderful surprise.’

Alex married Bonnie, who is a successful TV producer, in April 2017 in the scenic Hunter Valley. They announced they were expecting twins in September 2018. 

The couple welcomed their children in January 2019. 

Sharing the happy news on Instagram, Alex wrote: ‘Our new family. Our beautiful girls were born in the very early hours of January 20.’ 

‘Mum is doing great. Girls are too. We couldn’t be happier,’ he added.
