Shane Warne responds after son Jackson said he ‘isn’t fit enough’ for SAS Australia

‘They can’t afford me’: Shane Warne hits back after his son Jackson said the cricketer ‘isn’t fit enough’ to complete the challenges on SAS Australia

Shane Warne has hit back after his son Jackson said the cricketer ‘isn’t fit enough’ to compete on SAS Australia.

The sports star, 51, told Nova 96.9’s Fitzy & Wippa on Friday that the show was ‘a great opportunity’ for Australians to get to know his son, but Channel Seven ‘couldn’t afford’ to pay him enough to appear on the program.

‘They can’t afford me! I’ve been in the public eye for 30 years, from 1990 to 2020,’ he said.

‘From a 20 year old to 51 now, I’ve got a lot of different layers, I’m a businessman, I’m a father, I’m a sportsman, I’m a commentator,’ he explained.

Shane went on to say:  ‘It’s a shame that sometimes people tend to pigeonhole you and have this perception of what you’re like because of a few things you’ve done 20 odd years ago.’

The cricket legend also said he’s proud of his son for appearing on the military-style program but admitted he would struggle on the show.

‘I think I would struggle with the show. I think I’m mentally tough enough. You train your butt off to try and get fit and that’s the show but I reckon if someone was yelling at me like that I reckon I might yell back, I don’t reckon I’d be able to sit there and cop it!’

Last month, Jackson took a subtle swipe at his cricketer legend dad as he joked he wouldn’t be able to complete the gruelling challenges on Seven’s military-style show because he isn’t ‘fit enough’.

‘I don’t think he’d be able to jump out of the chopper, I don’t think he would’ve done initiation,’ Jackson said on Nova 96.9’s Fitzy & Wippa.

‘But the cardio and the lifting, he might have got into shape? But even his cricketing days, he was fit, but I don’t think he was SAS fit,’ he said.

Jackson went on to say his mother Simone Callahan would of been able to complete the ‘cold water challenges’.

‘She’s crazy with that stuff. I was doing it with her leading up to the show just to get used to it and adapt,’ he explained.

Meanwhile, Shane’s weight has fluctuated dramatically over the years, with a significant weight gain back in 2017 the last to be widely reported on.
