Ed Sheeran’s neighbour is building a mobile home next to the singer’s sprawling estate

Ed Sheeran‘s neighbour has won a bid to build a mobile home in his newly extended garden next to the singer-songwriter’s sprawling estate in East Suffolk.

Neighbour Tony Robinson had plans to extend his garden by incorporating part of a paddock which runs alongside the star’s home approved in April despite objections from Sheeran.

Mr Robinson already owned the field behind his four bedroom home – which is worth £550,000 – and wanted to add some of it to his private garden.

He has now been granted permission to install a ‘mobile home’ or ‘twin caravan’ at the edge of this land, on the opposite side to Sheeran’s £3.7million estate.

East Suffolk Council approved the structure, which will be around 10ft high and 65ft long, on November 9, adding it should only be ‘used by family members.’

Documents outlined that the caravan ‘should not be utilised as a separate dwelling.’

The structure is close to the hitmaker’s impressive 16-acre estate, nicknamed ‘Sheeran-ville’, which is the crowning jewel of a property portfolio estimated to be worth £61million.

The father-of-one, who welcomed daughter Lyra Antartica with his wife Cherry Seaborn in September, purchased the first of his East Sussex properties for £895,000 in June 2012.

Land Registry records disclose he then snapped up the 16th century Grade-II listed house next door for £450,000, before purchasing three further properties in the village of Dennington.

His estate includes a private pub, swimming pool and hot tub, orchard, walled kitchen garden, greenhouses and an underground cinema.

Elsewhere, Sheeran has installed a private gym, a recording studio, a football pitch and a ‘wildlife pond’, which was the subject of complaints last year.

His country estate is far from without controversy, and Sheeran has been embroiled in several planning disputes with neighbours.

In April, the pop star, 29, objected to proposals to extend the garden next door – which is understood to be where the aforementioned caravan will be built.

Mr Robinson was ‘very disappointed’ at Sheeran’s objection to his application to extend his back garden by incorporating part of a paddock which runs alongside the singer’s home.

Mr Robinson’s proposal, submitted to East Suffolk Council, said most of his garden is in front of his house and offered ‘little quiet enjoyment’ because it isn’t ‘private or secluded’.

Extending his garden would have ‘little or no detrimental impact upon the amenity of neighbouring properties’, the submission added.

Mr Robinson already owned the field behind his four bedroom home – which is worth £550,000 – and wanted to incorporate some of it into his private garden.

But Sheeran, who had undertaken his own vast building project just a few hundred feet away, did not want the space to be domesticated.

He claimed it would ‘extend the village into the countryside in an unplanned and artificial way’.

Although the council objected to Mr Robinson’s proposal initially many neighbours wrote in to support him and his plans were eventually approved.

In 2018, council officials challenged Sheeran over an outdoor sauna and a pub-style sign on a Grade II-listed barn.

He was told to apply for planning permission or remove them. Plans for a chapel were also refused, before a revised scheme was approved last autumn.

Sheeran was also told he could not swim in his wildlife pond after he was granted permission to build it under the condition that it was used to provide a natural habitat for frogs, newts and dragonflies.

The council visited his property and specifically forbade ‘recreational leisure such as swimming’.

He was also forced to remove his outside sauna, in a caravan next to the pond, after neighbours complained.
