After his glowing write-up in the local paper, much of Walford continues to grow more irritated by Ian (played by Adam Woodyatt) and his behaviour despite his financial troubles.

Max (Jake Wood) continues to threaten him in upcoming scenes, leading Ian to tell Sharon (Letitia Dean) that there’s only one way out.

It remains to be seen what Ian will do in his desperate times, but it’s clear his struggles will set the stage for his attack, which will air on Friday December 4.

A source told The Sun that Ian will be attacked in the Queen Vic for the gruesome festive storyline, with suspects including mum Kathy (played by Gillian Taylforth) and his sons Peter (Dayle Hudson) and Bobby (Clay Milner Russell).

Max is also likely to be a suspect as he and Ian have never seen eye to eye in the past, along with Dotty Cotton (Milly Zero) who knows Ian was responsible for Dennis Jnr’s death in February.

It’s thought that Ian will not die in the attack, but will be left fighting for his life in hospital, and it remains to be seen whether this leads to his upcoming break from the soap.

A source said: ‘People are queuing up to cave Ian’s head in. As far as legendary EastEnders characters go, Ian is up there with the best so this storyline will leave viewers shocked.

‘He has no shortage of enemies so exactly who attacked him and left him for dead will be the focus of the weeks that follow.’
