I’m A Celebrity 2020: Shane Richie almost loses his trousers in gruelling Bushtucker Trial

Shane Richie was in danger of losing his trousers during the Bushtucker Trial on Thursday night’s episode of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

The former EastEnders actor, 56, and Olympian Hollie Arnold struggled through the Wicked Waterways task and only managed to get two out of six stars, the worst result for a trial this series.

The trial consisted of two tunnels, one on top of the other. Hollie and Shane had to use a single bucket and work as a team to transfer water through the tunnels and into the collection pipes.

Once they had enough water in the collection pipes, the stars would float up and they could collect them.

Only stars in their star bag at the end of time counted. Six stars were up for grabs, each worth two meals for camp.

Things started off fairly well for Shane and Hollie as they got a star straight away but they struggled through the rest of the task.

After Hollie said she was glad to have Shane with her, he said: ‘Stop with the responsibility, you’re a Paralympic gold champion, I’m relying on you tonight!’

They were told as time went on the trial would get harder, that it would last 12 minutes and that they would not be alone in the tunnels.

Shane went into the top tunnel to collect the water, Hollie the lower tunnel to collect the bucket and pour it into the pipes.

The pair kept talking to each other as they worked out how to get the bucket to each other.

Hollie said: ‘Let’s go Shane, come on Shane let’s go, we’ve got this! Just keep filling it [the bucket] as much as possible. Hurry up, I haven’t got all day!’

The bucket’s chain caused the pair issues by getting caught, as well as water spillages.

As Shane’s trousers got pulled lower during the trial, Dec laughed and joked: ‘Alfie’s moon,’ in reference to the actor’s EastEnders character.

The pair struggled to get enough water to make the star’s rise while Dec also thought they had communication problems.

After the trial, Hollie said: ‘It was tough.’

Shane agreed but added: ‘We made it tougher.’

The pair got two stars, totalling four meals for camp, with Shane saying: ‘We set a precedent, this is the first one where we’ve kind of dropped the ball.’

When Shane and Hollie returned, it was clear to their camp mates the trial didn’t go as planned.

Talking in the Telegraph, Ruthie said: ‘When I saw Hollie and Shane’s face when they came through the door, I knew there was a problem.’

Hollie told everyone the Trial was brutal and that they’d only got 2 stars which was worth 4 meals for camp, with their fellow celebrities surprised at the disappointing result.

Victoria said: ‘We’ve eaten like Kings & Queens the past few days and this is a real come down.’

Equally displeased, Beverley said: ‘Everyone’s a little bit, not fed up, we’re in shock.’

Victoria added: ‘It really doesn’t matter what ingredients/what food we get tonight. It’s obviously going to be very difficult to feed 12 hungry mouths.’

It was a let down for the camp as, ahead of the trial, some of the stars who were expecting Shane and Hollie to return with 12 hours.

After learning who would be doing the trial, Russell said: ‘This is the first time Hollie has been voted by the public to do a trial. I think she’s really excited about it and she will smash the trial tonight.’

Speaking in the Telegraph, Jordan said: ‘I have never been more confident for a trial since I’ve been here. You’ve got full-house showbiz Shane Richie and you’ve got Hollie who is so determined and competitive that they will come back here tonight with 12 stars.’

Hollie said ahead of the trial: ‘The pressure’s on as everyone’s done amazing. If we don’t get anything more than 10+ stars I feel everyone’s mood will be… it’s got to be 12. Scrap that, it’s 12, we are going for 12.’
