Sophie shared the news during a question and answer session on Instagram Stories where fans could ask her anything they liked.

One follower asked if she and Adam were still together, with Sophie replying: ‘We broke up earlier this year. Like lots of couples this year.’

Despite the split, Digital Spy reports Sophie later said she wasn’t dating again yet and is instead: ‘Very happy to be single right now.’

Sophie and Adam had been dating since October 2018, with them going public with the news on Instagram with a loved-up selfie.

Before they made things official in real life, their Hollyoaks characters – Ellie and Brody Hudson – had also hooked up.

Last year the pair moved in together and embarked on completely redecorating their flat by adding some decorative touches.

Back in October 2019, Sophie explained that they were starting from scratch with the project.

She wrote on Instagram: ‘We have no sofa, no bed, pretty much nothing else expect a few wooden chopping boards, vases, dried lavender sprigs and some plants.’

Sophie left the soap in 2018 and told Digital Spy at the time: ‘There probably never is a “right time”, but I’d been at Hollyoaks for three years and I’d had some amazing storylines during that time.

‘So it just felt right to leave now, but I’m going to miss it so much.’

Adam is still appearing in the hit soap and last year won Best Male Dramatic Performance at The British Soap Awards 2019.

Hollyoaks matched Coronation Street with nominations last year, bagging an impressive 14 nods.

On accepting his award, Adam said: ‘This is for Survivors Manchester, the charity we work with. On a daily basis i got to pretend what those survivors go through and the bravery they show. This is for them.’

At this year’s awards, EastEnders won a total of five awards at the virtual ceremony while its ITV rival Coronation Street was close behind with four gongs.
