Lorde announces release of her first-ever photo book which features stunning images from her 2019 trip to Antarctica

Lorde recently reemerged after successfully evading the spotlight for 18-months and abandoning her various social media platforms.

And the singer-songwriter, 24, treated her fanbase to some ‘exciting news’ as she announced the release of her first-ever photo book Going South on Tuesday.

Going South, which highlights Lorde’s 2019 trip to Antarctica, was made available on her online store and reportedly sold out within a matter of 10 minutes.

Luckily, those wanting to get there hands on the 100-page book can pre-order a copy that will not ship out until ‘mid-February.’

Exciting: Lorde treated her fanbase to some ‘exciting news’ as she announced the release of her first-ever photo book Going South on Tuesday

Lorde revealed Going South to her devoted fans via her official newsletter on Tuesday.

‘I’m here in your inbox because I have exciting news. Not that news. Don’t get too excited,’ began Lorde via newsletter, quashing fans hopes for a follow-up to her 2017 album Melodrama.

She explained that when she ventured to Antarctica in 2019, a trip that was ‘facilitated by the lovely folks at Antarctica New Zealand,’ she was joined by her good pal Harriet Were.

Were lugged around ‘all these cameras and lenses and film through the snow’ in order to document the pair’s trip ‘entirely on film.’

‘And the pictures turned out so beautiful,’ gushed Lorde. ‘I thought it was only right to make them into a little catalogue-style book.’

She noted that, along with all of the stunning photography, she included ‘a piece of writing [she] did about [her] experience on the frozen continent.’

Giving fans a bit of insight at to where her mind was at when she took the trip in 2019, Lorde opened up about experiencing a lack of musical motivation.

‘When I went to Antarctica, I hadn’t yet starting writing again after finishing Melodrama. I realized after the trip that what my brain had been craving was a visit to an alternate realm.

‘Albums live in their own realms in a way, and Antarctica really acted as this great while palette cleanser, a sort of celestial foyer I had to move through in order to start making the next thing,’ said the Royals singer.

Lorde deemed her Antarctica adventure a ‘life highlight’ and described Going South as the ‘perfect precursor’ to her forthcoming album in ‘an abstract way.’

As stated on her official website and her newsletter, Lorde will be donating 100% of the net proceeds ‘to Antarctica New Zealand to support a postgraduate scholar to study climate change science.’

Lorde achieved international fame at 16 years old when her single Royals, from the album Pure Heroine, became a worldwide hit.

Her sophomore release, 2017’s Melodrama, is considered one of the best pop albums of the decade, according to critics.

The death of her dog Pearl last October slowed down the roll-out of her third album.
