I’m A Celebrity 2020: Beverley Callard admits she’d love to do a fitness DVD with Vernon Kay

I’m A Celebrity‘s Beverley Callard has revealed she would love to do a fitness DVD with Vernon Kay, after criticising his former show Splash! in an embarrassing moment.

On Tuesday’s episode of the show, the star accidentally ‘put her foot in it’ when she badmouthed the former ITV reality show without realising Vernon, 46, used to host it.

But it seems the former Corrie star, 63, has bounced back from the humilating moment as she revealed she would love to collaborate with Vernon during Wednesday’s episode of I’m A Celebrity… The Daily Drop.

No hard feelings? I’m A Celebrity’s Beverley Callard has revealed she would love to do a fitness DVD with Vernon Kay, after criticising his former show Splash! in an embarrassing moment

Speaking to host Vick Hope from the Telegraph, the actress, who carved out a lucrative career in fitness videos in the 1990s, said of her decision to pick Vernon, 46, to collaborate with: He’s got really good coordination.

‘Also, he’s working out in here every day. He’d be easy to train.’

Bev’s interview comes after she branded Vernon’s former show Splash! ‘stupid’ in an awkward chat on Tuesday.

Talking around the camp fire, conversation got onto Splash!, which saw Olympic diver Tom Daley teach a group of celebrities how to dive.

The ITV reality series was hosted by Vernon and Gabby Logan yet it was unfortunately axed in 2014 after just two series.

Talking about Splash!, Beverley didn’t hold back as she called it the ‘most stupid programme ever’.

Yet the actress was soon left humiliated as the campmates reminded her that Vernon used to host the show.

Responding to her remark, Vernon quipped: ‘It kept my central heating on though Beverley!’

With Beverley quickly apologising and replying: ‘Oh no, I’m so sorry, Vernon, I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry.’

The fellow campmates were left in hysterics over the scenes as the star continued to apologise to Vernon over the gaffe.

Speaking in the Telegraph later that night, Beverley admitted she is known for ‘putting her foot in’.

She confessed: ‘I wanted to curl up and die, poor Vernon. I’m notorious for putting my foot in it, and I really did there.’

Splash!, which ran for two seasons before it was axed in 2014, saw Olympic diver Tom Daley teach a group of celebrities how to dive with Vernon and Gabby Logan as hosts.

Series one, which aired in 2013, saw Olympic athlete and ski jumper Michael Edwards, also known as Eddie the Eagle, win the show.

While series two, which aired in 2014, saw Diversity star Perri Kiely crowned the winner of the last-ever series.

It was claimed at the time that Tom’s training had to come first as he prepared for the 2016 Olympics in Rio at the time.

A source told the Mirror: ‘Tom’s diving comes first. But we love having him on the channel and are looking at other projects for him.’

Elsewhere in the interview, Bev was quizzed about castle life, with the star saying:  ‘It’s freezing cold, but it’s actually not as bad as I thought it would be. We are all having a good time.’

She praised Jordan North, 30, for ‘putting a smile on her face’ adding: ‘He never stops talking and we’ve got great chemistry and I love him.’

Asked who she’d want to run the Rovers with her she said: ‘I think I’d like it to be a woman, so I’d choose Hollie (Arnold). I think two women should run the Rovers for a change and she’s really practical and sensible and she’d keep me in check.’

On who she’d cook a hot pot for Beverley said: ‘AJ because he loves his food.’

Asked who is ‘mardy’ when tired or hungry she said: ‘Jess (Plummer). She does eat a lot and if she gets tired and the hunger really kicks in she gets very sad and upset.’

Also during the show, Giovanna Fletcher, 35, was named as the new camp leader, replacing Jordan.

Studio guest Charlotte Hawkins said: ‘She’s going to be amazing’ while fellow guest Arron Crascall added: ‘She’s going to have authority – she’s a mother.’

Charlotte added: ‘She keeps it so cool, calm and collected. She lets it wash over her. She might be seething underneath’ with Dev Griffin saying: ‘I feel like she’s filled that role quite naturally anyway. I think if anyone questions it she’ll be quick to shut them down.’

Discussing current leader Jordan, 30, and the tensions that had boiled over in camp over chores, Charlotte said: ‘He needs to be saying more, “You should be washing the pans better, you should be chopping the wood”, and they’re not doing it. So that is going to cause issues.’

Dev said: ‘That’s a tough job for Jordan. He just wants everyone to get on. I think Jordan would struggle with “You do this, you do that.”‘

New episodes of I’m A Celebrity…The Daily Drop hosted by Vick Hope will be on the ITV Hub daily.
