  • Fortunately no one was seriously injured after the car crashed into the barrier

Terrifying footage shows the moment an Audi slides sideways in front of a police car after losing control on a busy motorway.

The dramatic video was captured by traffic cop David Cant as he sat observing cars on the hard shoulder of the M62 outside Scammonden, West Yorkshire.

David was monitoring vehicles during the misty conditions when he caught the moment the car shot sideways across the motorway.

This is the moment an Audi slid sideways down the M62 after the driver lost control of the car. The shocking footage was captured on the dashcam of a West Yorkshire Police traffic officer

He then shared the video onto his Twitter page urging motorists to ‘expect the unexpected’.

In the video, the dash cam of the police car can be seen monitoring passing vehicles in foggy conditions.

Out of nowhere, an Audi travelling sideways slides down the inside lane of the motorway and across onto the hard shoulder.

As the police car pans around, the Audi can be seen sitting sprawled across the hard shoulder and the inside in lane.

The camera reveals how the front driver side tyre has been wrenched off following the impact with the motorway’s crash barrier.

Debris from the car can also be seen sprawled over the lanes of traffic.

David then makes his way towards the car frantically calling for assistance.

As the clip ends, the driver can be seen tentatively opening the door.

David can also be seen trying to force the door which seems to have been damaged in the collision.

Subsequent images of the crash show the mangled barrier which the Audi struck and the damage caused to the car.

The vehicle’s wheel arch has been left exposed and the vehicle has been left lopsided by the crash which took place on November 9.

David took to social media to share the heart-stopping footage and captioned his post: ‘Expect the unexpected! Luckily very minor injuries.’

@Julie_Bex posted: ‘Gosh he’s a very lucky man.’

@DavenportReed1 commented: ‘When drifting goes wrong. In all seriousness I’m glad nobody was seriously hurt.

‘It just goes to show how quickly things can escalate at motorway speed.’
