The original Frank Capra-directed film was based off of the 1943 Phillip Van Doren Stern short story The Greatest Gift, and it was a generally faithful reproduction of the source material.

While it was not a critical success upon its original release, it was nominated for multiple Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

The film was subsequently recognized as one of the greatest American films ever made by multiple outlets.

Davidson is set to portray George Bailey, a down-on-his-luck businessman who is visited by a guardian angel and given the chance to see what the lives of the people around him would look like without him.

The lead role was originally played by James Stewart, who was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor.

Apatow will star as Violet Bick, a potential love interest who shows up during Bailey’s educational experience.

The Saturday Night Live alum and Apatow  previously starred together in the 2019 semi-autobiographical film The King of Staten Island, which the actress’ father Judd directed, produced, and co-wrote.

The rest of the roles have not been announced as of yet.
