Kate Hudson elaborates on her parenting techniques: ‘I don’t negotiate with my kids’

Kate Hudson says she is a strict parent as she discusses being a mother to three children: ‘I don’t negotiate with my kids about certain things’

Kate Hudson is by her own admission a ‘strict parent.’

The 41-year-old actress talked to People this week about the techniques that she used to raise her children: she has Ryder, 16, Bingham, nine, and Rani, two.

The Almost Famous actress was very adamant about the discipline that she tries to instill in her children, stating: ‘Where I am strict is that there are certain rules that I put down. I don’t negotiate with my kids about certain things.’

Mother knows best: Kate Hudson recently had an interview with People where she detailed her methods as a parent, and describes herself as ‘strict’ with her children; she is seen in 2018

She added that there is an understanding that the rules instilled in the home will be tested by her children, as she feels that letting her kids find out what is right and wrong for themselves is integral to their growth.

‘That’s, I think, an important part of their development. How far they can push something,’ added the Bride Wars star.

The How to Lose a Guy In 10 Days actress expanded on this point, stating that ‘I give my children a lot of space to make mistakes.’

One thing that Hudson did note was unacceptable in her household was being untruthful about any subject, as she felt that letting her children get away with not being upfront with their mother was setting a bad example for their future.

‘I have no tolerance for lying…the tiny lies or the big ones.’

The actress did mention that she tried to keep a receptive attitude regarding how her children feel about certain subjects and that she will accept the way that they learn how to deal with their feelings.

‘When it comes to [the children’s] feelings or emotions … I’m very open.’

Hudson concluded that her parenting methods were ultimately her own, and that she was not attempting to discredit other approaches that different parents utilize, stating: ‘there’s way too much judging going on in the world.’
