Emma Stone recalls first Golden Globes and sitting with her mom next to Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt

Emma Stone recalled attending the Golden Globe Awards for the first time and sitting with her mother Krista next to Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.

The 32-year-old actress shared her memory of the 2011 awards ceremony Monday during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

‘I went with my mom. That was my first time going to the Golden Globes. It was very, very, very exciting so I took my mom with me. We sat next to Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt,’ Emma told Jimmy, 46.

‘We were like, ”Of all people to be sitting next to at that kind of a show, whoa.” And my mom never drinks and she had champagne that night, which was probably not the best idea, but she was having a wonderful time.’

‘[My mom] started asking Angelina Jolie like, ”Do you have kids?” And I was like, ”You’ve gotta be out [of your mind].” She completely knew, but she was making small talk. ”How old are they? What are their names?” She knew everything. But they were so nice. We had a blast. That was a very fun night,’ Emma said.

Emma also revealed that her character in her new film The Croods: A New Age was inspired by an unlikely Friends character

She plays Eep, the adventurous member of a cave family that is eager to explore the world, in the upcoming movie.

Emma revealed that the girl was ‘a little bit inspired by Monica from Friends, who could not be more opposite from Eep as a character.’

‘I realized sometimes my cadence goes a little bit into ”I know!’,’ she said, referring to a famous line uttered by Courteney Cox’s Monica. ‘When I was watching it, I was like, ”Am I doing Monica a lot and I didn’t realize it for 10 years?”

Emma called it ‘a little Easter egg that I didn’t even know I was planting.’

Working on The Croods sequel was a blast, she said, because her usual expressions were ‘rubbery’ and ‘sometimes a little too big,’ which was perfect for Eep.

‘I don’t have to rein it in, which is fantastic,’ Emma noted.

The actress voiced the first Croods in 2013, and Jimmy asked her about her breakout film Easy A, which was shot in 2010, saying he’d recently come across it on TV.

That prompted Emma to show him the tattoo she’d gotten around that time.

It was two blackbird feet, inked across the inside of her left wrist, which she pointed out were supposed to be pencil-thin but had in fact widened and darkened over time.

‘This is my marker of time,’ Emma moaned. ‘Everyone in my family has them, and they’re fading away, they’re so thin. And mine has just bled out, and by the time I’m 80, I’m going to have a black bar against my wrist. It is so ridiculous how bad this is getting. It’s like the rings on a tree. I now know it’s been 10 years since Easy A.’

Emma then shared her story about taking her mom to the 2011 Golden Globes, as she was nominated for an award for her work in Easy A.

The actress also told Jimmy she’d been trying to keep busy over the past few months, as she quarantined to stay safe from coronavirus.

‘I got into making bracelets,’ she said. ‘I’ve been doing the Zoom meetings, sleeping more than usual, eating more than usual [thing],’ but then I got into making stretchy string and beaded bracelets. I had to send one over to you.’

Jimmy lifted the bracelet up in its Ziploc bag, through which the words on the bracelet could be read: ‘Bracelet For Jimmy.’

‘Just Jimmy’ felt boring, so that’s the bracelet that’s for you,’ Emma explained, calling it ‘so stupid’ as Jimmy put it on and complained that it was cutting off his circulation.

‘That was the intention,’ she replied. ‘If you need to get your blood drawn or anything, you can use it as a tourniquet.’
