Ellen Pompeo posted a tweet featuring former co-star Katherine Heigl that has sparked fan speculation about Izzie Stevens returning to Grey’s Anatomy.
The 51-year-old actress who stars as Dr. Meredith Grey on the ABC show uploaded a tweet Thursday with a throwback still of Meredith and Izzie, played by Katherine from 2005 to 2010.

A promo for the next episode of Grey’s Anatomy airing December 3 teased that a character from Meredith’s past was returning and fans started wondering if it might be Izzie.
‘IZZIE COMING BACK??,’ one fan tweeted in reply to Ellen’s post.
Another fan hoped that Ellen wasn’t toying with her emotions and tweeted, ‘you can’t post a gif of mer and izzy without getting my hopes up that
@KatieHeigl will come back! I’m not over it yet’.
The season 17 premiere of Grey’s Anatomy earlier this month was set amid the COVID-19 pandemic and Meredith after fainting had a vision of herself on a beach with her late husband Derek Shepherd, played by Patrick Dempsey, who died in a car crash during season 11 in 2015.
