Mario has since turned his life around and has gone on to become a father, and says he has his big sister to thank.

Speaking to the Sunday People, he said: ‘People might not know this but Giovanna quite literally saved my life when I was at my lowest ebb.

‘I was having a really difficult time eight years ago going through a very public break-up. I was getting a lot of hate on social media and felt really backed into a corner – like this was the only way out.’

The reality star has previously spoken out about his suicide bid, which came in the aftermath of the breakdown of his relationship with then partner Lucy, 29, in 2012.

He told how after waking up the next day, he was relieved to have thrown up and at that point vowed to seek help.

The author and podcaster set up four days worth of counselling for Mario at a top London doctor, followed by ten additional follow-up appointments over the coming weeks.

Detailing the effect it had on him, he said: ‘That really turned things around for me. She encouraged me to talk to people and not keep things bottled up. That saved my life – without any doubt.’

Since getting his life back on track, Mario went on to find love with make-up artist Becky Miesner in 2016.

The couple are now engaged and share a two-year-old son, Parker Jax.

Mario’s words comes after Giovanna revealed she once filmed a scene for TOWIE, alongside her reality star brother, but was cut out of the show.

The writer and podcaster recounted the story during Saturday night’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

‘They talked me into being part of the scene. They really had to talk me into it,’ she told campmate Shane Richie of her reluctant decision to take part.

‘It was a massive thing for me to say I’ll do it. And then I got cut. I was more upset about being cut. I am not TOWIE enough!’
