Chadwick Boseman honored by street name in Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Chadwick Boseman received numerous tributes from his Marvel costars and his adoring fans following his death in August from colon cancer.

And now intrepid fans of the Black Panther star have spotted a tribute to him hidden away in the new Spider-Man: Miles Morales video game for the Playstations 4 and 5.

The redditor u/RollieDell appears to have been the first person to notice the touching Easter egg on Thursday, in the form of a street named for the actor.

Players can explore New York City as Spider-Man in the game (though this time they’re playing as Miles Morales, not Peter Parker).

The redditor noticed a stretch of 42nd Street between 1st and 3rd Avenue that had been renamed ‘Boseman Way,’ in memory of the star who played Spider-Man’s longtime ally.

The choice of 42nd Street appears to be because one of Boseman’s first big roles was as Jackie Robinson in the biopic 42, which was also Robinson’s number when he played for the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Eric Monacelli, director of production for Marvel Games, tweeted approvingly after fans discovered the Boseman tribute.

‘YES!!! Here’s the Easter Egg I was sad no one had found! The classy and right on point (Marvel’s) NYC style tribute to the great @chadwickboseman that we worked on with the @insomniacgames team,’ he wrote.

In 2014, Boseman told GQ that he had been directing an Off-Broadway play at the time he auditioned for 42, and he had been considering giving up acting and sticking to directing before he won the role.

‘I remember my first agent telling me — because they found me as an actor, but I was probably more interested in writing and maybe directing — they were like, “Well, you can’t do both things.”‘ And I was like, “I’m gonna show you,”‘ he recalled.

Following that role, Boseman would star as James Brown in Get On Up (2014) and as future Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall in 2017.

But it was his role as T’Challa, or Black Panther, that became his defining role.

He originated the character on screen in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, before portraying him in Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel Endgame.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales also includes a special dedication to Boseman in its end credits, which some fans noted on social media.

The messages reads: ”In loving memory of a noble king, Chadwick Boseman. His honor, strength, and compassion will reverberate for generations to come. Wakanda forever.’

Fitting: The tribute was on 42nd street because Boseman's first big role was as Jackie Robinson in 42. The number was Robinson's number while playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers

New path: In 2014, Boseman told GQ that he planned to focus on directing after a string of acting failures until he won the role for 42; still from Black Panther

Other fans have discovered a tribute to Stan Lee in the Spider-Man game.

A statue honoring the comics legend is located next to diner, which featured a different tribute to Lee in the previous Spider-Man game.

The webslinger is currently portrayed in films by Tom Holland, who introduced his version of the character in Captain America: Civil War, before starring in Spider-Man: Homecoming and Far From Home, as well as the last two Avengers films.

However, Miles Morales, the Spider-Man featured in the video game and in current Marvel comics, was featured in the hit animated film Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, and that character may become the new Spider-Man on film once Holland hangs up his costume.
