Strictly’s Maisie Smith ‘cried all night’ after landing in the bottom two against Max George

Strictly Come Dancing‘s Maisie Smith was reportedly left ‘crying all night’ after landing in the bottom two couple’s during last weekend’s vote. 

The EastEnders star, 19, narrowly escaped an early exit from the BBC show with partner Gorka Márquez as they faced Max George and Dianne Buswell in the dance off.

And following the close call, Maisie has had to be comforted by her fellow Strictly co-stars after taking the vote ‘to heart’.

A source told The Sun: ‘Poor Maisie has been so upset – she’s been crying all night and has really taken it to heart.

‘She’s young and living away from home for the first time so it’s hard on her.’

The insider went on to say that the young actress had the support of her fellow celebrity contestants and professional dancers as they attempted to cheer her up. 

They added: ‘The show’s dancers and the other celebs have been rallying around and trying to lift her spirits.’

MailOnline have contacted Maisie’s representatives for comment.  

Despite earning a respectable 24 with her Cha Cha, Maisie and Gorka, 30, landed in the bottom two couples, much to the shock of viewers. 

And following the result, in which the teen was saved by Craig Revel Horwood and Anton Du Beke, former Strictly pro Kevin Clifton claimed Maisie is a victim of sexism after landing in the dance-off on Sunday.

Kevin, who danced with Maisie in the 2019 Children In Need special, shared his shock and shared his theory why it had happened.

Taking to Twitter on Monday, he wrote: ‘People love a confident/ talented/ successful man but a confident girl gets labelled cocky.’

Maisie told fans that she usually trains eight hours a day for the weekly dance show, but admits she and her dance partner Gorka Marquez sometimes have to train for up to 10.

She admitted that she is ‘slow at learning everything’ because her ‘brain just doesn’t work after about 4pm’.

The actress also said last weekend’s Cha Cha was her favourite routine.

She added: ‘I guess that got me in the bottom two. But I loved it. I had the best time of my life and I loved being Barbie for a day. That was wicked.’

Kevin also responded to tweets from other Strictly fans who agreed that confident male contestants can be treated differently compared to the female celebs.

After sharing his amazement at Maisie and her pro partner Gorka Marquez’s position, the star – who left the BBC show before this series – received several responses.

One person said: ‘@keviclifton I don’t understand why every year the public are b****y. And say they don’t like someone as a person.

‘It isn’t a personality contest. It is a dancing contest. I for one love #Strictly. Nerves etc can make people come across as awkward.’

Meanwhile, pro Gorka revealed on It Takes Two this week that Maisie’s dance the Cha Cha was particularly ‘tricky’.

He said to host Zoe Ball: ‘Do you know what? All the pros say, ‘The Samba is very hard, Or, ‘The Jive is very hard.

‘But the Cha Cha, it’s a very tricky dance, especially for the females with the heels, you know?’

Since her disappointment last week, Maisie is determined to do well this weekend and has been spotted leaving rehearsals after several gruelling hours of dance training.

This week the duo will perform a Salsa to Better When I’m Dancing by Meghan Trainor in a bid to remain in the competition. 

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 7.15pm on BBC One.
