Home and Away’s Sarah Roberts reveals how she coped with grief after miscarriages and family tragedy

‘You have to keep going’: Home and Away’s Sarah Roberts reveals how she coped with grief after losing her brother, grandmother and suffering two miscarriages with husband James Stewart in just 18 months

Home and Away star Sarah Roberts has faced a devastating 18 months, after losing two close family members and suffering two miscarriages with her husband James Stewart.

But in a new interview, the 35-year-old discussed how she has dealt with such devastating grief – saying she uses her soap character Willow Harris as therapy to just ‘keep going’ in her own life.

‘You just have to keep on going – the world keeps moving, and sometimes the only way through things is to keep picking yourself up off the ground and keep continuing on, even if it’s hard,’ she told The Daily Telegraph.

‘I’ve been through so much while working on the show and jumping into [Willow’s] drama was an escape from my real life at times. It’s funny that all that drama is a nice solace.’

Sarah tragically lost her brother, Karl De Abrew, in October 2019 following a 15-year battle with brain cancer.

He passed away just three months after he walked her down the aisle at her wedding to co-star James, 43, at Luttrellstown Castle on the outskirts of Dublin.

The ceremony was held in Ireland, where Karl lived, because he was unable to travel overseas due to his condition.

On Mother’s Day this year, Sarah faced more tragedy after losing her beloved grandmother.

It was around that time she also revealed that she and James had suffered two miscarriages in the past year.

Looking back, Sarah adds that she’s proud how far the couple have come after such a difficult period.

‘Jimmy has been the best husband. He’s so supportive he’s such a rock for me,’ she adds.

Sarah became stepmum to James’ daughter Scout – who he shares with ex-partner Jessica Marais – when the pair married last year.

Rather than a star-studded cast of characters in Ireland, the pair opted to have an intimate ceremony with just close friends and family.
