John Legend jokes he can ‘keep gaining quarantine weight’ now that Michael B. Jordan is Sexiest Man

Michael B. Jordan was officially named People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive 2020 replacing last year’s top guy, John Legend.

The 41-year-old EGOT winner took to Twitter to congratulate Jordan on the honor and also joked that he can keep on ‘gaining this quarantine weight’ now that the baton has officially been passed.

On Tuesday, Jordan was revealed as the Sexiest Man after showing up on Jimmy Kimmel Live in disguise. 

‘Congratulations to my brother Michael B! And thank you! I can now keep gaining this quarantine weight in peace without the pressure of a title to maintain,’ Legend tweeted.

Along with the tweet, John shared a fun video of the Creed actor doing a Q&A about the annual honor.  

While many have put on the ‘COVID 19’ (the term used for the 19 lbs people have gained in quarantine), Legend doesn’t seem to be packing on pounds despite having his own personal chef at home.

Wife Chrissy Teigen is a best-selling cookbook author and is currently working on her third installment of her Cravings books. 

The former supermodel regularly shares all of the delectable dishes she and her mom Pepper Thai whip up at home.

Meanwhile, the Sexiest Man Alive certainly hasn’t been skimping on the gym during the pandemic. 

The 33-year-old lived up to the moniker on the cover of People Magazine reclining in a bicep hugging polo shirt. 

To reveal that he had been chosen, Michael appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live in a full yellow hazmat suit along with a black-and-white smiley face mask.

Tessie from Salt Lake City, Utah asked if he had ever been in a romantic relationship with Taylor Swift and he replied, ‘That’s pretty specific, but, uh, no’.

Erin from Salt Lake City asked if he had over 5 million Instagram followers and he answered ‘yes’.

She then guessed that he was actor Channing Tatum, but he replied no.

He then revealed that he did not play Aquaman and also that he was not known for being funny.

Ashley from Los Angeles then asked if he had any children and he replied, ‘No children for me’.

‘Is it Michael B. Jordan?,’ Ashley guessed.

‘Are you Michael B. Jordan?,’ Jimmy asked him.

‘Yeah, I am,’ Michael confirmed.

Jimmy interviewed Michael after the reveal and the talk show host boasted about declaring back in January that Michael was the frontrunner for the award. 

Michael told Jimmy that it was a ‘cool moment’ learning from his publicist that he had been named Sexiest Man Alive, but admitted it also gave his friends fresh ammunition to tease him. 

He also shared that he’s been working on the upcoming film Journal For Jordan directed by Denzel Washington, 65.

Washington was the first non-white Sexiest Man Alive in history when he was chosen back in 1996.
