George Clooney has normally not been known to hold his tongue, but these days he enjoys letting others fight the good fight, including Chrissy Teigen.

The 59-year-old actor-director and Casamigos co-founder was named GQ‘s Icon of the Year for 2020, and he opened up on a number of topics.

The multi-hyphenate, who will return with his first feature film in four years, Netflix‘s The Midnight Sky in December, revealed he has a list of ‘enemies,’ but he’d rather watch Teigen take them on instead.

‘I have much more fun watching Chrissy Teigen. Somebody steps into her world and you go, “Oh, I wouldn’t do that, dude.”

He added, ‘It’s so much fun. Like somebody who thinks they’re really smart, and you just go, “Ugh, dude. You brought a knife to a gunfight.”‘

Clooney isn’t on social media at all, though he adds he enjoys writing letters, adding he has stacks of them his assistant calls ‘George Versus the World.’

One letter he recently wrote was to someone in Saudi Arabia who wanted to alter his 2014 film The Monuments Men.

While Clooney was fine with cutting out some of the explicit language, ‘at the bottom it said, “and we want to blur out the Star of David in these three shots.”‘

The filmmaker said he, ‘wrote a really scathing letter two days ago where I just said, you know, “I’ve been doing this a long time, and no one in my life has ever asked me to blur out particularly a Star of David in a movie that’s about the stealing of art and then the mass murder of Jews.”‘

He concluded the letter, ‘”So the answer is: No, you can’t have the film, and no, we won’t be making any of these cuts, and go f**k yourself.”‘

The actor and filmmaker said he also prided himself in picking ‘good fights,’ paraphrasing the John Lewis saying of ‘good trouble.’

Among the ‘good fights’ he has picked over the years included TV Guide, for failing to include his ER co-star Eriq La Salle, the most prominent black actor on the show, on its covers.

He also spoke about why he has beef with Russell Crowe, stating, ‘Just out of the blue, he’s like, “I’m not some sellout like Robert De Niro and Harrison Ford and George Clooney.” I’m like, ‘Where the f**k did that come from?’

He also wrote a letter to an unnamed Washington Post film critic, who suggested that his directorial debut, 2004’s Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, was actually directed by his friend Steven Soderbergh.

‘At the end of the letter, I said, “Letter actually written by George Clooney”‘ the actor-filmmaker recalled.
