Dave Hughes, Ed Kavalee Erin Molan ‘will host 2Day FM breakfast in 2021’

The worst-kept secret in radio: Dave Hughes and Ed Kavalee ‘will host 2Day FM’s Sydney breakfast show in 2021 with new co-host Erin Molan’

Their Hit Network drive show is one of the most popular across Australia, and Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes and Ed Kavalee could be in line for a major promotion.

According to industry insiders, the Hughesy and Ed show is being moved to 2Day FM’s breakfast slot in Sydney next year.

And if rumours are to be believed, they will be joined in 2021 by a third co-host, Channel Nine sports presenter Erin Molan.

Erin is currently the host of The Sunday Footy Show and presents sport on Nine News on weekends.

She is also no stranger to radio: she has presented The Continuous Call on 2GB and also used to be The Kyle and Jackie O’s sports pundit.

What’s more, she has made several appearances on Hughesy and Ed, so has already had the opportunity to develop chemistry with the duo.

If the trio do end up hosting 2Day FM breakfast, Hughesy will most likely have to move from Melbourne to Sydney.

Radio industry sources say that Hughesy and Ed’s drive slot will be replaced by a longer edition of Carrie Bickmore and Tommy Little’s popular afternoon show.

2Day’s breakfast time slot is currently being filled by announcer Jamie Angel, who oversees a music-only show without entertainment segments.

The Music for Breakfast format was created after numerous line-ups failed to get ahead in the market.

2Day FM has attempted several different breakfast formats in the almost seven years since Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson defected to KIIS FM in 2014.

The most recent iteration, Grant, Ed and Ash, was axed in August last year.
