Michael J. Fox remembers critical advice his late father-in-law Stephen M. Pollan provided him with, amid his toughest times.

The 59-year-old actor, promoting his new book No Time Like the Future: An Optimist Considers Mortality on ABC News Monday, opened up about a series of health problems he’s dealt with in recent years, and the key wisdom he relied on to survive.

‘He would always say, no matter what was going on, “It gets better, kiddo. It gets better. The last thing you run out of is the future,”‘ Fox said of Stephen M. Pollan, the late father of his wife, actress Tracy Pollan.

Fox, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991, two years ago dealt with a litany of health problems on top of his ongoing battle.

They including a spinal tumor and a subsequent broken arm, as he recovered after an operation on the former.

He opened up on the anguish he experienced after he ‘shattered’ his arm while recovering at his apartment in New York.

‘Everyone’s taking an abundance of caution with me and warned me to be careful. I have to think before I walk; I can’t just get up and go because I don’t have much control of my momentum and control of my direction,’ he said.

The Canadian-American star said he’s made ‘peace with’ living with Parkinson’s disease, and noted he called ‘kind of a détente’ against his anger upon the condition.

‘It takes up the space it takes, and it left me room to do other things and thrive and golf and have friendships and travel,’ she said.

Fox and Pollan wed in 1988 and are parents to four grown kids: Sam, 31, twins Aquinnah and Schuyler, 25, and Esme, 19.
