Vanessa Hudgens debuts new ‘Cages or Wings’ tattoo inspired by her forthcoming film Tick, Tick… BOOM!
Vanessa Hudgens showed off some new ink on her Instagram Sunday.
The former Disney Channel star, 31, took to Instagram to debut her new tattoo in a black and white photo.
Etched onto her arm in delicate script was the phrase: ‘Cages or Wings.’

The line was a reference to the song Louder Than Words from the musical Tick, Tick… BOOM!
It seemed to hold a special place in Vanessa’s heart, seeing as she just wrapped filming a movie adaptation of the beloved Broadway show, directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
In her caption she thanked NYC tattoo artist Mr. K, saying: ‘FOR JL [heart emoji] So fun todayyyy.’ ‘
JL’ was likely referred to late composer Jonathan Larson, who crafted the music for Tick, Tick… BOOM and Rent.

He passed away in 1996 from aortic dissection, a heart ailment that was not discovered until after his death.
