It was heavily doubted whether the show would return to screens in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

So I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! fans rejoiced on Sunday night as the show made its long-awaited return to screens after relocating to Gwrych Castle in Wales.

Viewers rushed to Twitter to claim the series has ‘saved 2020’ as it kicked off with the 10 celebrities moving into their new home before facing another gruelling trial.

As ever hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly kicked off proceedings by giving fans a tour of the show’s new home, joking the crew had been watching ‘far too much Game of Thrones.’

The duo were also quick to poke fun at the new COVID-friendly climate, claiming even ‘the helicopters were socially-distanced.’

Despite a few tweaks to the beloved show, fans were still thrilled to see it back on the air, and rushed to Twitter to share their delight.

One posted: ‘Just caught up with tonight’s #ImACeleb. Great lineup, stunning location @GwrychTrust and @antanddec on fire as always! Sooo good to have it back on our screens!’

Another posted: ‘Oh it’s good to see this back on TV,’ with a third writing: ‘So happy @imacelebrity is back. Love the cringe fest that is celebrities introducing themselves to each other on the first day.’

‘#ImACeleb is finally back and I am happy,’ a viewer tweeted, with one also writing: ‘It’s so great to have @antanddec back with #ImACeleb back on the tele box for the next 3 weeks.’

‘So good to have I’m A Celeb back, for 90 mins everything felt normal again!’ a viewer also posted.

Once they’d arrived at Gwrych Castle, all 10 contestants took part in the first trial The Gates to Hell, winning seven stars for their first meal. 

The show then ended with Ant and Dec revealing that Jordan North and Shane Richie had been voted to face the next trial, The Viper Vault.
