In the publication’s December issue, the niece of Julia Roberts, who is expecting a baby boy with her partner Garrett Hedlund, talked about her past fertility struggles.

Before her becoming pregnant with her first child, she revealed a doctor suggested she freeze her eggs after discovering her undiagnosed endometriosis.

When she was diagnosed, her doctor noted that the disorder can cause problems with fertility, which led her to undergo methods to get pregnant in the future.

‘I felt like I had done something wrong,’ said Roberts, who also noted as a teen she wanted to be married with kids by 24.

‘When I found out about my fertility, I was kind of stunned,’ she said. ‘It felt so permanent, and oddly, I felt like I had done something wrong.’

Then she was brought into ‘a new world of conversation about endometriosis, infertility, miscarriages, fear of having kids.’

Not easy: Roberts stated she thinks she had endometriosis when she was a teen and it was never dealt with. When she found out, her doctor added that endometriosis causes problems with fertility. She was then told she probably needed to freeze her eggs and she did so

WHAT IS ENDOMETRIOSIS?

Endometriosis is a disease in which the endometrium (the tissue that lines the inside of the uterus or womb) is present outside of the uterus.

Endometriosis most commonly occurs in the lower abdomen or pelvis, but it can appear anywhere in the body.

Symptoms of endometriosis include lower abdominal pain, pain with menstrual periods, pain with sexual intercourse, and difficulty getting pregnant.

On the other hand, some women with endometriosis may not have any symptoms at all.

Approximately 10% of reproductive-aged women have endometriosis. However, the true prevalence is unknown since the diagnosis requires laparoscopy to visualize and biopsy endometriosis lesions.

Endometriosis is seen in 12-32% of women having surgery for pelvic pain, and in up to 50% of women having surgery for infertility.

The Nancy Drew actress said: ‘I was so grateful to find out I was not alone in this. I hadn’t done anything ‘wrong’ after all.’

She said she got pregnant when she stopped thinking about her fertility issues.

‘It sounds cheesy, but the moment that I stopped thinking about it, we got pregnant,’ she revealed.

But Roberts was not comfortable sharing the news with her fans right away because she worried something could go wrong.

‘So I kept it to myself, my family, and my partner, not wanting to make grand plans if it wasn’t going to work out,’ she said.

‘This pregnancy made me realize that the only plan you can have is that there is no plan.’

Lately, she joked to feeling ‘hungry and tired’ a lot since ‘food and sleep do not abide by the normal laws when you’re pregnant.’

'This pregnancy made me realize that the only plan you can have is that there is no plan,' she reflected

‘I’m healthy, which is the thing I’m most grateful for,’ she said during the revealing interview.

‘To see my body change inside and out so drastically has been a wild experience. Surprising and beautiful,’ Roberts added. ‘Then again, some days I feel like I’m being hijacked by something.’

The star also told Cosmo that she thought she would be married and a mom by 24.

She joked: ‘At 16, I thought, ‘By the time I’m 24, I’ll be married with kids.’ And then I was 24 and I was like, ‘Remember when I said I would be married with kids by now?”

She said that constant travel for her career kept her from her dreams of pursuing a family.

Emma’s also described her latest film Holidate, which was released in late October on Netflix, as fun, nostalgic and romantic.

‘I love serious work, but sometimes, you just want to laugh and watch a movie 10 times in a row, and that’s okay,’ she said of the project.

In the photo shoot, which was done by Kylie Jenner’s friend Sasha Samsonova, Roberts shows off her belly at a hilltop mansion in LA.

And the interview was conducted by her friend, novelist Stephanie Danler.
