Quirky Casey has a dark side and attempts suicide in the film. She is sent into a treatment facility but gets broken out of the institution by Matt who thinks their love will be enough to ‘fix’ Casey.

In her own life, Drew has experience similar troubles to her character. She entered rehab for the first time at 13 and returned a second time a year later following a suicide attempt.

‘I remember on Mad Love, I mean I was so wild at that point in my life, I would say straight up cray, and just having the best time and I would just take scissors to my hair,’ Drew reflected in the clip.

Drew and Chris’s romance in the film was so intense that the actor admitted that he’d never been able to watch the movie.

‘I have to confess I had so much fun making Mad Love – I’ve actually never seen it,’ he revealed.

There was one failed attempt around the time the film premiered when O’Donnell said he was so uncomfortable he had to walk out of a private screening.

‘It’s so funny because, I don’t know if you remember there was a screening at one of the Warner Bros. lots, and I was sitting between you and Caroline, who was my girlfriend at the time, and we got into a couple of these scenes and I said, “I can’t handle this. I can’t sit between the two of you and watch this movie,”‘ Chris explained.

Adding: ‘So truthfully, and people especially young girls always come up and go, “I love that movie, it was so amazing,” and I’m thinking, “Thank you, I can’t comment. I don’t know how it ended up turning out.”‘

Two years after Mad Love came out, Chris ended up marrying his girlfriend Caroline and the pair have been together ever since. Together they share five children.

‘I just get embarrassed watching myself onscreen. It’s an uncomfortable experience,’ the star said.
