Tom Hanks’ son Chet slammed for using fake ‘Jamaican’ accent in video rant

He has been routinely hit with claims of ‘cultural appropriation’ for frequently attempting to speak in a fake ‘Jamaican’ accent.

And Tom Hanks’ son Chet has yet again been slammed for impersonating what seemed to be Jamaican patois, an English-based creole language with West African influences.

Taking to Instagram, the rapper, 30, shared a bizarre video rant on Sunday, following Joe Biden‘s presidential win, where he spoke in the mock accent.

Speaking about the US election, Chet appeared to sympathise with Donald Trump’s defeat and seemingly told his followers to show him ‘some respect’.

In the clip, he continued: ‘Hey guys, I just want to say that you know how that Trump is leaving office I think that it is important to remember that he was the President so we should show some res… psych’

But he revealed that he was joking before launching into a rant in a mock ‘Jamaican’ accent, calling the President a ‘p***yclat’ – patois slang for menstrual sanitary towels.

The Fantastic Four actor quickly received floods of comments from his 355,000 followers, with many slamming his fake accent in the bizarre video.

One unimpressed follower wrote: ‘This makes me hella uncomfortable.’

While another penned: ‘Why are people ok with white folks acting Black?’

A third Instagram user deemed the video ‘the worst thing I’ve ever seen’ while many disappointedly commented that he had ‘done it again’.

Hoards of people also took to Twitter to criticise the video, with one person asking: ‘Honest question: why does Chet Hanks do that accent lmao.’

Another penned: ‘i can’t believe chet hanks just woke up one day and decided he was jamaican.’

It is not the first time that the Hollywood star’s son has been hit with claims of ‘cultural appropriation’, as he also impersonated a Jamaican accent at the Golden Globes earlier this year.

He had joined his parents and three siblings at the A-list event, where Tom, 64, was presented with the Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award.

Chet took to Instagram while live on the red carpet to share a video of himself speaking what seemed to be Jamaican patois.

‘BIG UP FIMI WHOL FAMILY SOON COM AT DI AWARDS NA SEEN,’ he captioned the clip. ‘CHUNE IN.’

His mother, actress Rita Wilson, commented on the video, saying it was ‘maybe the best laugh of the night’.

But the bizarre footage received a huge social media backlash after going viral, with many labelling the video as ‘deeply disturbing’ and ’embarrassing’.

Many of Chet’s followers have now used his latest video to remind others of his previous rant – as well as when he defended his use of the N-word when he was an aspiring rapper under the name of Chet Haze in 2015.

He said at the time: ‘I know the majority of y’all are not going to get this because the history is still so fresh in our country.

‘But hip-hop isn’t about race — it’s about the culture you identify with. Can’t no one tell me what I can’t say.’

Chet has defended his actions yet again when speaking about cultural appropriation in an Instagram video in February.

He asked: ‘Why are we so caught up on this idea of theft and stealing?’

‘Why are we so quick to be angry and tense over the blurring of racial communities, instead of just being welcoming towards it?’

As well as Chet, Tom also shares one other son, Truman, 24, with his wife of more than 30 years Rita, 64.

The Forrest Gump star also has two elder children – Colin, 42, and Elizabeth, 38 – with his ex-wife Samantha Lewes.
