Tina Arena reveals she almost quit her music career because she was ‘psychologically and physically exhausted’ – as she announces her 2021 Australian tour

Tina Arena has revealed she almost quit her successful music career after starring in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Evita in 2019.

The 53-year-old told SMARTdaily on Monday, the show left her ‘psychologically and physically exhausted’ and she ‘needed to take some time off’.

‘How close was I to quitting? I was pretty serious. That 2017 tour was magical. Then I did Evita [in 2018 and 2019], which was amazing but psychologically and physically exhausting,’ she said.

She explained: ‘After that I knew I needed to take some time out and I very seriously thought “Maybe it’s time to stop?”‘

Tina went on to say she started getting her passion for music back after Melbourne’s first lockdown.

‘I truly feel I have so much more to explore. I guess I wasn’t ready to disconnect from that. Songwriting has been an incredibly powerful thing for me to do, there’s lots to talk about,’ she said.
